Arts feud leads to lawsuit

BROCKTON— Defeated mayoral hopeful Gayle Kelley faces a new challenge — defending accusations of misappropriating money from a nonprofit group and fraud.
The allegations come in a civil lawsuit filed against Kelley just days before the city's Sept. 18 preliminary election, in which she came in a distant third to incumbent James Harrington and challenger Jass Stewart.

The Enterprise received a copy of the suit Sept. 13, but chose not to print the story so close to the election.<snip>
“We've been working on this (lawsuit) for five months, we had no idea (Kelley) was running,” he said. “I'm not surprised she said something like that. She's trying to muddy the issue.”
