The Governor of Massachusetts is a bullshit artist--this is unbelievable!
I really used to like this guy--I voted for him and GOTV'd for him. This, along with the way he's been governing lately, however, is profoundly disappointing:

http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2008/04/05/patricks_book_pitch_didnt_tell_the_whole_story/?page=full

Governor Deval Patrick said in his book proposal that he was able to "fill the Boston Common recently with ten thousand people," a boast intended to prove to publishers that his message of hope and optimism generates enthusiasm and will translate into sales.

But Patrick left out a key fact about the Oct. 23 Boston Common rally.

It was held to celebrate Patrick's endorsement of Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate, who stood by Patrick's side at the event. Obama has filled sports stadiums around the country and caused onlookers to faint during his speeches, and he was almost certainly the bigger draw on the Common that day.

Critics suggested yesterday that Patrick's assertion was like an opening band saying it filled Madison Square Garden without mentioning that the Rolling Stones later took the stage.

"That's a bit of a hyperbole, I think," said Senate minority leader Richard R. Tisei. "People who went to that event were more interested in hearing Obama than hearing the governor."

In the proposal for the book, to be called "A Reason To Believe: Lessons on Leadership and Life," Patrick tried to demonstrate to publishers that he could be a big draw and sell at least 150,000 hardcover copies.

"I was able to fill the Boston Common recently with 10,000 people eager to hear my dreams for the future," Patrick wrote toward the end of the proposal. "I believe that I can partner with my publisher to develop widely followed book signing events that will generate the sorts of crowds at readings or lines at book signings that translate into a book's ascent to the top of bestseller lists."

1. I should probably read the book before judging.

3. He hasn't WRITTEN it yet. He's saying that "he" brought those people to the Common.
He was just the warm-up act for Obama.

He's using his pretend "drawing power" to suggest that he'll be able to sell books. What a putz.

He couldn't sell the frigging legislature on casino gambling, and he went and based his budget on getting that idea sold. We know what that means--either more taxes or fewer services. Heckuvajob, Deval.

4. Like I said, I'd rather read it first
And not base my opinion on a single line on a book proposal that more than likely he didn't write himself.

5. He wrote the book proposal, all by himself.
It's not just "a single line" --he bullshits further, too.

But I guess you didn't read the article, either.

6. Like I said, I'd like to read the book before I judge him on it's contents.

7. Well, that's not going to happen for a few years. He wrote the proposal--that's why
it has the word "I" in it. Several times.

That's what this topic is about--the proposal, NOT the book.

You're being deliberately obtuse, I suspect. Either that or you're a bit dull of comprehension.

But hey, heckofajob, there, Brownie.

9. I've lived in Massachusetts since the Bill Weld era
and frankly, the Governors have ranged between
"The Legislature lets some of the stuff
I propose become law" and "I should be kept
away from sharp objects and hot liquids"

10. This really fucking pissed me off too
For once I would like a Gov. who actually wanted to be our fucking governor and not just using us as a stepping stone for their next endeavor.

I feel completely betrayed.

Frankly Gov Patrick performance is why I do not want an Obama presidency. I won't buy the same load of horseshit twice.

Hope, change, "together we can"...."yes we can"

Can what? change what? hope for what?

Even if the bill was destined for death he should have fucking been here and not out looking to increase his own fucking fortune.

I once thought he would make a great president. Then reality hit and all the pretty fucking words in the world couldn't cover the fact that they were empty words.

Now somehow I am supposed to fall for it all over again?
