OPINION: Petti can’t make up mind on Brockton power plant
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 08:04 AM by Ian David
City Councilor Todd Petti – or anyone – has the right to change his mind on whether he thinks a power plant should be built in Brockton. But Petti has changed his mind so many times, his position and reasoning are losing their validity.

Petti has taken at least four positions on the controversial 350-megawatt plant and has pretty much been the only city official in favor of it – except when he opposed it.

In case you’re keeping score, Petti is now for the plant. Last year he was against it. In 2008, he was for it, saying he was convinced the developers would pass environmental muster. In 2007, he said he opposed the plant until he was clear about environmental issues.

That’s a lot of changes. And they might even be valid if Petti was consistent in his reasoning. But when he opposes the plant, it is for environmental or safety reasons; when he is for it, it is for economic reasons.
