Newsom Blasts Dems For Not Supporting Gay Marriage
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 02:47 PM by IanDB1
(Cambridge, Massachusetts) San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom got a reception usually reserved for a head of state Tuesday when he addressed students at Harvard University.

Speaking at the John F. Kennedy School of Government Newsom dismissed accusations that his decision to allow same-sex marriages helped reelect President George W. Bush and motivated voters in 11 states to approve constitutional amendments banning gay marriage.
"That train had already left the station," Newsom said. "This was going to be used as a wedge issue regardless of whether or not some crazy mayor was sworn in in San Francisco or not."

In a speech frequently stopped by applause and cheers, Newsom said his issuing of some 4,000 same-sex marriage licenses last year was akin to the actions of Rosa Parks during the civil rights movement

In a question and answer session the mayor was asked if same-sex marriage could not have a detrimental effect on families. “We’re talking about marriage here. It is an institution of stability,” said Newsom in response.

2. Instead of asking, "What is right?" the leadership...

...licks its finger, holds it out, and voila! A position is struck.

On edit, it seems I have accidentally landed in the Massachusetts Forum. I'm referring to the national leadership. Ta!

4. Could someone please explain to this 50 year old White
Heterosexual male who has been happily married for more than 30 years how preventing homosexuals from marrying is going to have a positive effect on heterosexual marriages? I guess I just can't figure out conservative logic. Banning homosexual marriage will result in less heterosexual divorce, incest, spousal abuse?? Boggles my mind.

6. That's because gay people will use-up all the marriage
If gay people keep getting married, there won't be enough marriage to go around for all those straight people who keep getting married and divorced over and over again.

Soon, there will be a marriage shortage and we'll have to import our marriage from un-stable countries.

7. Now I understand
"Straight" people know they need more than one marriage per! Thanks for clearing that up.

8. Einstein said, "Marriage can neither be created nor destroyed."
It's not like marriage is a renewable resource.

Once it's all used-up, it's all gone forever.
