Protest & rally, Boston Common, March 20.
Subject: MARCH 20 - save the date - pass along!

Please - Post this, print it, present it, push it - Pass it along to everyone you can think of

TWO YEARS AFTER THE INVASION OF IRAQ
PROTESTS AND RALLY
MARCH 20
BOSTON COMMON
1:00 PM

Anti-war groups all over the world are planning demonstrations for the second anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. United For Peace and Justice has called for local demonstrations in towns and cities all over the U.S.

Over 50% of the people in this country are against the War in Iraq. If just a fraction of them make their voices heard on March 20, WE WILL BE HEARD!

Demonstrations in Boston could represent a significant step forward in the direction of building a massive organized opposition to the war in Boston and across the United States.

Plan to be there, and bring everyone you know!

1. & DU meet-up?
There is some discussion in Kathy's "meet-up" post to have a March meet-up as well as April.

Well, why not March 20??????

2. Meet-up afterwards at People's Republik, 880 Mass Ave, Cambridge.
People's Republik, 880 Mass Ave, between Harvard and Central Sqs., Cambridge, MA, (617) 492-8632.

This bar is a pub with a Cold War theme. Socialist art, war posters, and a suspended bomb (!) hark back to the days when Dr. Strangelove was potent political satire. No food. Bartender sets the musical mood, from blues to jazz and house to techno, with help from the mood of the crowd. Open Sun. through Wed. from noon to 1 a.m., and on Thurs., Fri., and Sat. until 2 a.m. No cover. No credit cards.

RSVP here.

5. I don't understand
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 03:58 PM by paineinthearse
The only meet-up she suggested posted in the Mass forum is April 23. I had suggested to her in that thread that we have another on the 20th.

So, she can move hers to the 20th

OR

Coordinte with MOBE to move the demonstration to the 19th

OR

Do both!

the lounge last week about having a gathering on the 19th after the demonstrations for the yocals who didn't want to wait to get together until the April gathering. I neglected to bookmark it.

Haven't PMed her yet either but will shortly.

Multitasking here. . . sorry

8. Better check the date of the protest
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 04:35 PM by paineinthearse
The notice I reveived from MOBE (above) says the 20th.

p.s Why would a Massachusetts activity be posted in the lounge? What other forums should I be checking?

9. if memory serves. . .
folks were talking about protests to be held closer to downtown (I think) on the 19th so there are more than likely more than one happening that weekend. Not sure.

"p.s Why would a Massachusetts activity be posted in the lounge? What other forums should I be checking?"

Well perhaps 'cause some of those interested are from neighboring states and I think she was just throwing the idea out there for general discussion and most pay more attention to the lounge than the individual state forums. Am just guessing though.

I did just PM her but haven't seen her posting much today. I directed her to this thread. So if she doesn't post here and responds to me instead I'll relate back on what's up. Okay?

10. Thanks.
My thought is to have the primary post in MASSACHUSETTS forum, and links to it in others.

Until I see something concrete, I'm sticking with the MOBE action on the 20th. They are good people.

11. I can't do the 20th, but if you guys want to meet on that date
knock yourself out.

I originally posted this in the Lounge:

Most New England DUers seem to hang out there vs. the Mass and other state forums. I chose the 19th because some of us who know each other could only make that day. But feel free to do whatever you want.

12. i'll be there on the 20th !!!
hope to meet some DU'ers there ...

*U.S. out of Iraq - bring the troops home now
*$80 Billion for jobs, education, housing and healthcare – not war and occupation
*Military recruiters out of our schools, end “stop loss,” no draft

John Kerry said he will vote AYE on bush's request for an additional $81.9 billion for bush's occupation of the Middle East ... he's making a big pitch to channel more money to veterans but this is a pipe dream ... all the money will go towards assisting the exploitation of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan by trans-national corporations ... John believed that bush would use military force only as a last resort when he voted AYE on the IWR ... now it looks like he is willing to trust bush again ... please give John a jingle (he's in the book) and suggest he might want to reconsider ... thanks ...

17. Ivanna Moore Enmoore will be there, will you?

Mark Your Calendars: Big Anti-War Rally on March 20th at 1:00 pm on Boston Common (and more)!

A very large anti-war Rally is planned for March 20th at 1:00 pm on the Boston Common (Bandshell side). We simply must counter-demonstrate against those anti-war protesters who do not seem to realize that they shouldn't complain about a war which has been so very profitable for us!

We will be doing a performance art piece onstage which is bound to educate and amuse and will have our servants set up a richly-appointed booth from which we shall hold forth on the importance of war profiteering to our well-being! If you would like to participate, please RSVP to Ivana asap!
