Dear fellow Dean supporters,

I'm announcing my candidacy for Cambridge City Council and I'm asking for your support.

I co-founded Mass for Dean in early 2003 with the hope that we could build a progressive movement to take back our government and our party. I'm taking the plunge into a candidacy as part of the national and state Democracy for America focus this year on municipal races.

I call myself 'Socially Progressive and Fiscally Responsible,' like most Dean supporters. I need your help to get started, and then I need your help to win. Please check out my website at www.JesseGordon.org . If you can make it to Cambridge, the volunteer work now involves setting up databases and websites, and later will involve knocking on doors and making phone calls.

THE CAMBRIDGE CITY COUNCIL

Cambridge has nine seats on the City Council. All nine incumbents were re-elected in 2003 and all nine incumbents are running again this year. If they all win, that ain't democracy. Some of the incumbents are good progressives, but the fact of long incumbency makes them avoid fresh ideas and makes the City Council closed to reform. The people of Cambridge -- renowned as national progressive leaders -- often feel like they are not heard by their municipal government. I want to be the voice of the people on the City Council.

MY DEAN CREDENTIALS

* I co-founded Mass for Dean following the first Boston Dean Meetup in January 2003.

* I hosted the MassForDean.org website, and a dozen other Dean grassroots websites, providing an early model for the 'DeanSpace' websites that the Dean campaign adopted. The websites I got started included African Americans for Dean, Christians for Dean, Dean Para Presidente, Missouri for Dean, Ohio for Dean, Dean for N.H., and many others.

* I started the idea of 'Add a Penny for the Internet,' where people donated $10.01 instead of $10.00 to show their support for grassroots internet politics. This idea was adopted by the Dean campaign as 'The Meetup Challenge' and over a million dollars in donations were tagged with the extra penny.

Please check out my bio on www.JesseGordon.org for more!

2. Dean local candidates nationwide
***********************************

Dean's acceptance speech as DNC chair included Dean saying, 'If we want to win nationally, we have to start by winning locally.'

Therefore, we are re-starting the DeanVolunteers.org website as a list of local candidates who are former Dean supoprters or strong progressive reformers. We are asking you -- the people familiar with Dean supporters' candidacies in municipal and state races -- to send in names and websites of appropriate candidates. We will organize the list by state and region, like DeanVolunteers.org formerly organized local Dean groupas and Meetups. Please send in the names and contac information of local progressive candidates to candidates@DeanVolunteers.org

The following list are Dean supporters and strong progressives who are running for municipal and state office now. We hope this list will grow dramatically as we approach the elections. Please show your support by donating to some of these candidates and by contacting the campaigns of those near you.
