A new poll suggests that local support for Bush is withering, with Iraq and a struggling economy contributing to a low 37.8 percent favorability rating.

The poll was commissioned by the Cape Cod Times and WCAI, the Cape and islands NPR stations.

Among 648 respondents, 56 percent disapprove of Bush's job as president, and another 6.1 percent said they didn't know.

Approval dropped even further when participants were asked about Iraq and the economy. Only 32.2 percent of respondents approved of his handling of the economy, while 60.5 percent disapproved, and 7.3 percent said they didn't know.

And 32.3 percent of those asked approved of his handling of Iraq, with 60 percent disapproving, and 7.7 percent saying they don't know.
