Mass DU August 17 vigil count

1. Waltham 100+

Even my small home town had a vigil, but I was "on the road" and found this one through moveon.

Got to meet my old friend Ivana More N More from Billionaires for Bush and lots of other nice people. It was very quiet and peaceful, almost surreal. Broken by just one negative vibe, when some draft-age freeper drove by and shouted "go back to Cambridge". I didn't have time or inclination to send any negative energy back, but thought "you should join the army". The elderly woman next to me said "this is my home town, I've lived here all my life".

We need to do better. Waltham is a racially diverse city, the the vigil attendees were 100% white. How do we get the message into the minority communities?

I did address the fact that we should find a way to reach out to non internet users to the moveon people. As far as what we can do...all I can think of is the old fashioned flyers on the lightpoles and inside the coffeehouses and convenience stores. At least, I know you can do that in Somerville. I see them all the time for garage sales and other local events. I wish I had something more helpful than that. I'll keep thinking.

8. I was in Lowell too.

We were walking around the small common area, because the police said if we didn't we'd be considered loitering. Some folks had trouble keeping their candles lit beacuse of the walking, but it was still a nice event. Met some real nice people, and got mostly positive responses from the passers-by.

19. Andover Vigil

Over 60 people at Andover vigil on Wednesday night. No photos tho, sorry.

Somewhere in Andover, someone is vigiling every day - so it was a regular vigil night in front of the Town Hall. Merrimack Valley People for Peace are dedicated!
