Reminder - Charter Amendments Sub-Committee meeting tonight
Received by email. All registered Dems can attend, but only committee members are allowed to speak. You may channel a question or comment through a committee member.

=================================================

Correction on Sub-Committee Meeting

I apologize for the extra e-mail, but it was just brought to my
attention that in the introduction to last week's Dispatch I gave an incorrect day for the Charter Amendments Sub-Committee meeting.

The actual listing was correct and is unchanged, the meeting is on
Wednesday, September 14.

*09/14/2005 Charter Amendments Meeting*
Wednesday, September 14, 7 PM
Massachusetts Democratic Party, 56 Roland St., Suite 203, Boston
The Chairs of the Charter Amendments Committee are convening a special meeting for the purpose of discussing the charter amendments adopted at the 2005 Democratic Convention, including the process that preceded the recommendations and approval. This is a public meeting with participation only by and among the members. The names of the Charter Amendments Committee are posted on the web wite "http://massdems.org", and any concerned Democrat may pose a question or questions through any member.

I apologize for the confusion.

1. tonight's Charter Amendment Committee meeting
Any news on the Charter Amendment Vote Meeting tonight to discuss the process at the Democratic Convention in May around the Charter Amendment vote. As some of you may know the vote in May was a fiasco.

After months of pleading the Party decided to have a very controlled meeting tonight, where Charter Committee members only were allowed to speak after inquiries were sent to the Party or Committee members.

Fiasco # 2. Apparently it was not a particularly productive meeting, though they did allow a few non-members some time to speak.
The Charter Amendments themselves seemed, from my point of view, to centralize and concentrate power in the Executive branch. The only thing that was worse was the method by which these Amendments were forced in through some very confusing and questionable "votes" led by Leon, the Chair of the Convention at the time.

Did you go or know anyone who went tonight and what did you hear?

Sincerely,
Democraticwing

2. caroldu
first, welcome to DU!

:hi:

No, I could not get into Boston, but hope someone here did and can report.

If nothing shows in a day or two, go to Massdems.org, look up the CHARTER COMMITTEE and send a message to the chair (belive it is James Roosevelt). Ask for minutes. But don't hold your breath.

If he does not respond, he will be ath the social security forum on September 25, 2-4PM (Amy Potter Center, Weston Middle School, 456 Wellesley St., Weston).
