Healey selects Hillman as running mate
I am so glad we have a fair and open party that will allow our candidates to be selected by vote of elected delegates rather than annointed by the top :sarcasm:

AP Newsbreak: Healey selects Hillman as running mate
By Steve LeBlanc, Associated Press Writer | March 8, 2006

BOSTON --Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey has selected a former state legislator and head of state police as her running mate, a campaign adviser involved in the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday. A formal announcement naming Reed Hillman as Healey's choice to join her ticket in this fall's gubernatorial race was to take place on Thursday, the adviser told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity in advance of the official unveiling.

The reasons Healey narrowed the list of potential running mates to Hillman wasn't immediately disclosed. However, Hillman has two strengths that could be of use to her in a campaign: He would help strengthen her law enforcement credentials, and he would bring geographic balance to the ticket. Hillman, 58, served as colonel, or head, of the State Police from 1996 to 1999, before becoming a Republican state representative from Sturbridge, about 60 miles west of Boston. Hillman did not immediately return a call from the AP.

Healey, who lives in Beverly along Boston's North Shore, had recently narrowed her choice of possible running mates to Hillman, U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan, who lives in Plymouth, and state Sen. Scott Brown, R-Wrentham. Hillman is married and has two children. He graduated from Babson College and Suffolk University Law School. He served in the state House of Representatives from 1999 to 2004 before retiring.

Announcing a running mate is something of a misnomer in Massachusetts, because candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run separately through the September primary, before being joined on a party ticket for the general election in November. Since 1991, Republicans have tried to rally their relatively small ranks in this Democrat-dominated state by pairing a candidate for governor and lieutenant governor, arguing it offsets their weaknesses and presents voters with an upfront choice about a leadership team.

1. Could we re-register as Republicans to sabotage their ticket?
Just hypothetically. I'm not saying it would be a good idea.

2. CBS4 says that Healy-Hillman will run as crime fighters.

If so, will Ms. Healy kindly explain what she and Mittens have been doing
for their past three years in office. If she can help the situation
in Boston, why wait until next January?

3. Crime fighters? Have them explain why crime goes up during
repug administrations (federally) and down during Democratic administrations
