Attended a candlelight vigil last night in this little town in western Mass. organized by a courageous local chapter of Women in Black. We, son and wife, are not from here but were glad to attend something local. From 7 to about 8:30, cold as heck, about 15 people showed up. Passersby comments and honks I'd say were easily ten to one in support of our effort, and this tends to be a red area in an otherwise all blue state.
Best thing......toward the end a cruiser went by, momentarily flipped on his roof lights, made a U-turn and parked off to one side. The officer got of out of the car and walked over to where my 17 yo son was standing holding a big END THIS ILLEGAL WAR NOW sign. I made my way over pretty quick to just kinda watch his back and the cop was saying to him......
"I'm a veteran and I support what you're saying, it isn't right and we should end it and get out"......
My son replied "yeah me too, we support the troops and we want every one of them to come home safe now"
They shook hands and he gave the group a nod and left.
It's changing and I sincerely hope there is time.
