http://www.thebostonchannel.com/politics/8216554/detail.htmlLt. Gov. Kerry Healey's handpicked running mate, Republican Reed Hillman, is taking heat for lobbying for a pardon for a friend arrested on drunken driving charges three times.
"I know I can count on Reed to be tough on crime," Healey said on March 9 as he announced Hillman was her running mate.
"This is was two convictions -- one over 20 years old, the other over 15 years old. (Hillman) was recommending that this individual be considered for a pardon," Healey campaign spokesman Tim O'Brien said.
Hillman maintains he was helping an old man who wanted to go to his grave with a clean record. The man also was convicted of assaulting a police officer and wanted a gun permit.
"For him to ask the governor to pardon a man who has been arrested three times for drunk driving, it is completely hypocritical. For him to be with Kerry Healey running as a 'tough on crime' ticket is laughable," Democratic Party spokeswoman Cyndi Roy said. <skip>
