Romney lied about an invitation to Rome.

OK, this probably comes as no surprise but I want it out there. Romney's spokesman said Romney was invited by O'Malley to attend the cardinal ceremony in Rome. O'Malley said he didn't invite anyone but relatives.

"Romney and O'Malley offer somewhat different descriptions of their relationship and how the governor decided to come to Rome. Romney, through his spokesman, describes the archbishop as a friend and says the archbishop invited him to Rome; O'Malley, in an interview, described the governor as an acquaintance and says he invited no one to Rome other than his relatives"

I'm getting a little nervous about Romney because he's starting to get good press and I know he's a fake with a photogenic presence who will fool a lot of Republicans.

It also pisses me off that after 2 years of demonizing MA to score points with Repubs, he is saying that he went because it's an honor to our state - which he has not honored!

''I wanted to represent the Commonwealth to show just how significant we think an event of this nature is," Romney told reporters gathered for his departure from Logan Airport yesterday. ''The Catholic Church has roughly 55 percent of the population here in the state, and to have the leader of the church in our state become a cardinal is something which is a tribute not only to the individual but also to our state. . . . "

1. Mitt, if you wanted to "represent the Commonwealth" you'd stay here

once in a while instead of flying around the country ridiculing the Commonwealth at every opportunity.

2. The man is scum, pure scum

His need to lie about how he ended up at that ceremony shows him for what he is. But the more important bit of this story has to do with the GOP-Catholic dance that has been going on lately, particularly with reference to the gay marriage issue:

Romney and O'Malley have found common ground on some political issues, such as their opposition to same-sex marriage, and Romney has twice attempted to come to the church's rescue on Beacon Hill, helping to quash a bill that would have required churches to report their financial holdings and filing legislation that would exempt religious organizations that provide adoption services from a state regulation requiring that they consider same-sex households as prospective parents. Romney has also, like many Catholics, voiced unhappiness about the Catholic bishops' handling of sexually abusive priests....

It's a union of hate; that's what it is all about.

3. Oh, I know there is a lot of meat in the article but the blatant

lying and the 2-faced representing pride in MA/dissing MA I think shows alot about his character.

I think the GOP-Catholic dance has been apparent for awhile and I think it's sad. I guess as a Catholic (or any Christian for that matter) you can either focus on Jesus' teachings of compassion, love and forgiveness or focus on gay sex and abortions :eyes:

4. Wonder how Ray Flynn feels, having Romney take over his role as chief

cheerleader for politicians sucking up to the Catholic Church in MA

Despicable bunch every last one of them;not the least for which they think they general public has an attention span 10 seconds long.

5. He'll smile in public, diss him in private, is my guess

No matter how much political or cultural stars may align, ole Mitt the Shitt will never be loved or admired, even by cultural conservatives. And that has a lot to do with his religion, even though no one will admit it in public, because that just isn't PC.

He's tolerated, like a rich asshole uncle who comes by to give you the rent money when you're flat on your back and need the cash. Dealing with him is a teeth-gritting exercise, even amongst his party faithful, I suspect.

And I don't think he has a rat's chance of going the distance. I think he is angling for a VP slot, myself, or maybe a cabinet post.
