Restore Habeas Corpus and end torture on June 26th
Restore Habeas Corpus and End Torture on June 26th!
For nearly seven years, our core values of freedom and fairness have been eroded, from the suspension of habeas corpus and due process, to shameful acts of torture, CIA kidnappings and secret prison programs.

On Tuesday, June 26, 2007, we will rally in Washington, D.C. and throughout Michigan as we call on Congress to restore habeas corpus, fix the Military Commissions Act, and restore all our constitutional rights.

Join the ACLU, Amnesty International, Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and National Religious Campaign Against Torture around the state:

Michigan demonstrations:

Detroit:
Senator Debbie Stabenow’s office
243 W. Congress, Detroit
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Farmington Hills:
Congressman Joe Knollenberg’s office
30883 Northwestern Hwy., Farmington Hills
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

East Lansing:
Senator Debbie Stabenow’s office
221 W. Lake Lansing Rd., E. Lansing
12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Grand Rapids:

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Traverse City:
Parkway and Division in downtown Traverse City
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

In the Upper Penninsula:
Call-in to Senator Debbie Stabenow’s Marquette office on 6/26
906-228-8756

1. Are you going? I confirmed that I will be going, and agreed to...
be a part of the groups visiting the Congressional offices. I'll be taking the bus (hope I don't go stir crazy!) leaving from Detroit.

2. Good for you, livvy!

You're going to DC without me?

Nice to be a teacher and have that flexibility when you're off for the summer. I know you prefer to fly, so let me know how it is taking the bus.

If I'm not too busy at work tomorrow, I may try to at least get to Joe's office at noon.

3. It was a very last minute decision...Friday, last.
The bus leaves Detroit at midnight tonight. According to Google, it's a 9 hour drive...aaacccckkkk! Hopefully, I'll sleep most of the way. You know me, I can sleep pretty much anywhere, in just about any position. I'm taking a book, in case I can't sleep. I'm only there for the day. It's back on the bus at 6:00 PM Tuesday. I wish I could stay longer. I really love that city, and I'm not really a city lover.
Wish you were going, too!
We should get together soon, just to catch up.

4. It would be great to get together
I'd love to hear about your trip when you get back. Yes, I do know you can sleep anywhere, anyhow. I don't know if I could do the bus trip, be there for the day and turn around and come back. You know me, too -- I need to be able to freshen up after a night on the bus like that. I could do the bus if I were staying there for a few days, but not to turn around and come back the next night.

Let me know what works for you -- next weekend sometime is pretty open for me as far as I know now (although I have to doublecheck -- I have a statewide Gore meeting in Ann Arbor, and I don't remember if it's next Sunday or the following Sunday).
