Granholm backs Clinton for president
Gordon Trowbridge / Detroit News Washington Bureau

Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Lt. Gov. John Cherry have endorsed Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"Hillary Clinton's proposals and track record are evidence that she is clearly the candidate best prepared to lead the nation and be a champion for Michigan," the two said in a prepared statement released this afternoon making what had been a widely expected announcement.

The two Democrats will cite Clinton's advocacy for manufacturing jobs and tougher enforcement of trade rules, her support of universal healthcare and her backing for increased production of alternative fuels in the endorsement announcement, which is expected to go out later this afternoon.

Granholm had said on Oct. 10 that she would make an endorsement this week, and strongly hinted that Clinton would be her choice.

1. This lowers my opinion of Jen
I wish we could have a real primary. The primary system is absolutely broken and the attempt to move Michigan's to Jan 15th was an honorable attempt to point that out but unfortuantely it backfired.

2. It absolutely did
and it makes us look like idiots. We should just admit defeat this time out and stick with the original caucus plan. Then we can work for change for 2012. We've made our statement and it didn't work, but it at least started the conversation going.

4. Jennifer, despite her strengths, is a full-fledged DLCer.
Maybe that's good for Michigan ... but I definitely preferred Soapy Williams. Even Bill Milliken - a very good man - was excellent for this state. Those were the two best Governors of the state in the last 60 years, imho.

5. It is just team Clinton calling in their chits. Bill made sure that plenty of people were
obliged to him...and he did this during his presidency.....knowing the Hil was going to run.

6. While Milliken was a Republican...
You wouldn't have known it.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on that score!

Soapy was before my time, but I hear the same thing about him from my Dad.
