Who was actually on the Michigan ballot?????
I read in the New Yorker, then heard on the radio several times today, that Hillary was the only candidate who left her name on the ballot.

As I understand it, at least Kucinich and Dodd were still on (and Kucinich was still in the race at the time).

Can someone tell me?

Thanks!

(BTW - did anyone hear Randi Rhodes the other day ranting about Floridians, and, then she sputtered and couldn't come up with Michiganders, so she just said "Wolverines". Which leads me to believe she is not as well informed on Michigan as she might be).

3. I'm a Michigan Voter
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 09:06 PM by Windy
HIllary was on the ticket and so was Kucinich and Gravel. Kucinich and Gravel refused to sign the pledge.
Biden and Dodd were on the ballot, but at the time of the vote, they were no longer candidates.
Edwards and Obama were not on the ballot.

That is NOT what matters! What matters is that we in Michigan and the dem citizens in Florida were told, over and over again, in newsprint on TV and Radio that our vote did not count toward the nomination because the democratic party of Michigan (and florida) violated rules by moving up the primary. The primaries, as a result, were not sanctioned.

What that means is many many people did NOT come out to vote as they were told that their vote would not be counted. I know a few people that came out to vote on other ballot initiatives (school tax levies) in my area and didn't bother to vote for president as their candidate was not on the ballot.

The DNC cannot accept and certify the primary vote in either of these states as valid for this reason!

4. Not True.
Richardson, Biden, Edwards and Obama's names were NOT on the ballot.
They withdrew them.

Kucinich TRIED to withdraw his name, but filed his paperwork incorrectly
and Terri Lynn Land refused to remove his name.

Gravel never signed the pledge and never removed his name from the ballot.

Clinton and Dodd SIGNED THE PLEDGE and then made no attempt to remove their names from the ballot.

So, on the ballot were:
Clinton
Dodd
Kucinich
Gravel
Uncommitted
Write-In

There was a sincere effort to alert people to the fact that if they wanted
their votes for candidates whose names did not appear on the ballot
to count IN ANY WAY, they should vote "uncommitted", because "Write-Ins"
would be discarded.

I agree with your conclusion, though, about this being a bogus primary.

5. Thanks. My point was simply that people are mis-stating the facts
I knew Kucinich was still on (no one mentions this, of course). I read an article about how he twice filed the wrong paperwork (for all the "rules are rules" people) but the writer of that article implied that it might not have really been that much of an error, since he actually then campaigned in Michigan.

6. When we went to vote,
they told us that this primary didn't count (it was just a trial primary) and that there would be another primary in the spring that would count. What happened to that?

8. Who put out that lie?
Our Rethug county clerk's office told callers that they should write-in their choice if not on the ballot. Of course write-ins didn't count. I let my local party put my number on our answering machine for those with questions to call. If I had a dollar for every call I got I'd be somewhere warm and sunny right now.

9. They are trying to fix the election for Hillary.
DHinMI just posted on front page of DailyKos that the DNC has offerred
to pay for a caucus redo for MI. The Hillary power structure in this
state is poo pooing it because they are trying to get seated and
get their delegates to Hillary. This link will take you to two
other links with more information.

I was an Edwards supporter who really doesn't care if Obama or Hillary
wins. I'm just pissed they stole my vote, and now they are trying to
fix the election.
