Anyone else watch Detroit's state of the city?

Wow. And people think GDP is a hotbed of divisiveness. I'm convinced that this city can't move forward like this. It's a totally unworkable situation. Kwame's gotta go.

I think the people of the city see through it though. All the people in the focus group on Channel 7 were unanimous in the criticism and mistrust of the mayor. Mildred Gaddis' show this morning was great too. I saw Sam Riddle last night take on a couple of Kwame stooges in some forum (called "Let 'er Rip!" or some ridiculous name...gotta love the state of political discourse in our commercial media...lol) on Channel 2 with Huel Perkins and he was great as well.

That was a hand picked audience Kwame had cheering him on. He's exactly like Bush.

He's got a lot of guts to say the things he did -- accusing people of having a lynchmob mentality and not having any facts to back them up. The facts are what got him in trouble and he caused all of this himself. He's trying to set up a big smokescreen. It's time for him to face the real facts and get out of the way so maybe the city can try to heal itself.

I'm also getting really sick of the all Kwame all the time local news shows.

7. I think the image argument is secondary. His actions themselves are intolerable

If the harm is explained primarily as a hit to the city's image, the argument that "he can bring development to the city" can trump his misdeeds and abuse of power. Early on that was the refrain from the business community. Not hearing that so much these days. But I think, as a matter of principle, its the retailiatory firing of police officiers investigating him, the perjury, the secret deal using tax payer money to cover up his personal affair that are really the most important issues. Those things warrant his removal in and of themselves.

Obviously, your point is well taken and this isn't directed at you. Just kind of an observation. I agree this is terrible for the city's image. But it just bugs me a little bit when the focus is placed on the harm done to "image." What about the harm done to the principle of the rule of law? Not to sound overly naive, but this guy is just brazen in his disregard for that. Even if the city's image as a good place to do business were not affected one iota, this would still be tragic.

What I meant is what his actions are doing to the city's image across the country (and it's already not good) through his blatant disregard of the law. The circus is making Detroit -- and Michigan -- a laughingstock.

:popcorn: Sat there with my Popcorn and watched the show. The last five minutes of that speech was TOTALLY uncalled for. Kwame's dirty. His Administration is dirty and there's STILL the matter of an unsolved murder that hangs over this city like a cloud. The citizens want him GONE.

when he claimed to have received many death threats, to himself and to his family. Threats are criminal, so law enforcement may want to investigate them. If they exist.

11. I hope the prosecutor finds grounds to kick the case up to the feds

She's in a tough spot-up for re-election this year, and being a democrat who I'm sure has some ties to the mayor just based on party affiliation. She has to get elected county-wide, though, not just city-wide.

If the feds don't have grounds to take over, perhaps they can appoint a special prosecutor? Someone like the Kent County prosecutor, who is a conservative dem without ties to Kwame/the late Ed McNamara.

12. From what I hear, Kym Worthy is not a big fan of the mayor

That's only hearsay, but I'm inclned to believe it, and if it's true, I don't think she'd want to protect him. Besides, prosecutor is generally a short term job used as a stepping stone to something bigger. If she has her sights on statewide office, what better way to raise her profile than to take down this unpopular and corrupt mayor.

And I doubt she'd be delaying if she wasn't trying to make the strongest possible case.

by some new charges involving city contracts with one of Kwame's buddies. Or new publicity about the stripper who wasn't killed because of a party that never happened.

14. I just don't understand why he persists in unacceptable behavior

It's one thing after another with him. It's as if he 1) really doesn't think he's doing anything wrong; 2) can't help himself; or 3) is getting some really bad advice.
