Attention chocolate & ice cream lovers on the east side of Detroit
Friends of mine recently bought a shop in Grosse Pointe Woods. They sell Alinosi's Ice Cream and chocolates, custom ordered cakes, etc. It's an old-fashion soda shop. They're good folks and could use the support. Here's a website I created for them with more info: http://www.chocolatebar-cafe.com/

1. There's still a Sanders in Grosse Point on Kercheval!
And one at Laurel Park Place mall in Livonia.

Sanders is the home of:

1. Hot fudge cream puff sundaes
2. The Boston Cooler (Vernors float)
3. The bumpy layer creme cake.

I have to make sure we get my brother to the one in Grosse Pointe this summer.

2. BHowever, they closed the original one
And turned it into a Caribou Coffee. It had such character. The new one is okay. I loved the marble counter, wood panneling, and the picture of Fred Sanders on the wall.

3. I used to go to the one on Griswold and the Dearborn location
I'd skip lunch and have a cream puff sundae, instead. They were still open when I first moved to this area in 1987. I think there was even one at Oakland Mall, too.

Their outlet store used to be on Oakman BLVD, just west of Hamilton. I used to go there and get bumpy layer cream cakes at half price.

4. Great website!
I wish them the best of luck in their business endeavor. I like Sanders too, but the post is about Alinosi's!

6. I know exactly where it is...
You're talking my stompin' grounds! It's in the same block as Lou's Pet Shop, another super family-owned business in the Woods.

I will have to break my no-you-can't-have-any-ice cream-because-it-puts-weight-on-you-like-nothing-else rule, and stop in and have a dip or two. What a perfect excuse!

I grew up just one street the other side of Vernier (8 Mile), and still live in the area (S.C.S.), pass by the store frequently when I take that way to work, or drop in Lou's for some essentials. I'll be sure to stop in.

7. Be sure to say "Hi" to Lisa
She's the owner. Very friendly and chatty. And one of us!
