1. How much longer can the governor kick this can down the road?

Talk about a lose-lose situation for her. Hopefully she does the right thing for the city and removes him. So far she has delayed making a comment on what she would do if asked to remove the mayor. I suspect today she'll say she hasn't received anything formally from the council. Her smartest move now it to is assemble a group of party heavyweights to persuade Mayor Kilpatrick that it is in his best interest to resign now.

2. She has nothing to lose if she does.

3. I can understand her wanting a conviction, first

She doesn't want to use the power to remove an elected official without the conviction. In a way, removing him is like invalidating a local election, and she is being cautious.

Kwame should resign, but he doesn't have the decency to do so.

4. It becomes moot with a conviction

He would be removed automatically then. The stories I read today indicated that there is a formal process that the governor intends to follow and she can't comment because it might compromise the process. Makes sense.

Sounds like when Milliken did it, he appointed a judge to look into the issue, some sort of formal hearings were held and then a decision was made. That process might happen if he doesn't resign. But I have to believe that alot of important people are going to turn up the heat big time on the mayor to step down. He's not going to do it for the good of the city, so people with influence are going to have to persuade him that it is best for him to step aside.
