Some Good News from West Michigan....
With all the poor economic news occurring throughout Michigan, I thought I would post some good news coming from Greenville. As many of you know Greenville made national news a few years ago with the closing of the Electrolux appliance factory here. Nearly 3000 jobs lost in a community of less than 10,000. Gov. Granholm has worked directly with our city officials to bring a company named Solar Ebonics to Greenville and now have two solar energy shingle plants with expansions expected to start by years end.
These plants will employ several hundred people.

We just found out our other refrigerator plant (much smaller) Northland will be building a new facility bringing their sister plant from Indiana here, bringing in a few hundred more jobs. I do feel for those employees in Indiana that will lose their jobs, but at least they are staying in the U.S.. Again, our Gov. played an important role in getting Marvel to choose Michigan and not Indiana to build the new plant and having Northland move to Indians instead.

And lastly... our city manager recently announced that another "green" type manufacturer will be moving to Greenville although he qualified that with some final issues had to worked out...however, bringing a few hundred more jobs here.

So... as bleak as it looked 4 years ago... Greenville has made some great progress in bringing jobs home. It can be done.

:toast: to the hard working city officials that worked endless hours negotiating with these companies and also to our Governor who has visited our city several times to help with those negotiations to ensure the state did everthing they could to have companies choose Michigan as a great place to own a buisness.

2. Great news!
I have cousins that grew up in Greenville. The factory closing was a big blow to that community. Imagine green technology providing the replacement jobs! And other jobs coming to Michigan from Indiana? Wait! I thought Indiana's "low tax" environment was having the opposite effect! I guess what I've been told hasn't all been.
