How on earth does Romney help McCain in Michigan?

All I hear from these pundits on TV is how Romney would help McCain win Michigan. It makes no sense to me.

1. Romeny's father was Governor and he was born here yeah. Yet all this was over 40 years ago. How many people in Michigan even remember his Dad's time in office that are still alive, or even still live in Michigan? That's like saying Bush would win Connecticut because he was born there. There is a reason why Romney chose to stay in Massachusetts and not move back to Michigan and run for Governor.

2. The Repukes ran a businessman for Governor just 2 years ago and he lost by 15%. People are losing their jobs left and right and having to work at jobs that are below their skill level and pay less. Michiganders didn't go for a businessman for Governor what makes these fools in D.C. and New York think they'd go for one as Vice-President. Mitt Romney is just another Dick DeVos and the Democrats would paint him as such. Only difference is Romney has more hair.

3. Michigan has voted for the Democratic nominee in the last 4 election cycles. Michigan has a twice elected Democratic Governor, and two Democratic Senators. Along with a majority in the state legislature.

4. Romney is a flip flopper on abortions and gun control. As we all know Rupukes in this state love their guns. Romney supported gun control laws while he was Governor of Massachusetts. If those 1994 debates of him and Ted Kennedy where he talks about supporting gun control are put in attack ads, that in not going to turn on Michigan Repukes and make them run to the polls.

5. The Repukes only focused on Michigan for one week. The week before the primary. Romney came here and lied about jobs coming back and then left. A longer campaign would give the Democrats the chance to attack Romney which his Repuke opponets didn't have the chance to do during the primary since they only focused on Michigan the week before the primary and had to save money to use in other primary states.

6. And most importantly, people don't vote for Vice-Presidents. Just look at Dan Quayle for proof of that.

1. Short answer, he doesn't. Repub's are depending on older, last century voters,

and the huge amount of dem. voters who have vacated the state to turn things McCain's way. Not to mention to likelihood of cheating a la Republican style. If they stiff Detroit, the AA population there will riot.

2. Agree. And, repubs only hold areas with no radio choices.

I remember Romney, but now his name just means he has a few old somewhat wealthy glomers to call who might impress some of the blow-dried media.

Vote counting may be bad in Michigan.

Detroit has had good voting systems, but it did become worse with new system going from drawing a line to filling in a circle that machines sometimes do not count and most especially do not warn the voter that no vote was found.

4. He wouldn't, as far as I can see.

During the primaries, Romney promised to ban the most popular civilian rifles in the United States. McCain is already considered a flip-flopper on the gun issue (he was a spokesperson for the gun-control lobby "Americans for Gun Safety" for a while, as I recall) and putting a clueless dolt like Romney on his ticket would only hurt him in places like Michigan and pretty much everywhere else outside of Massachusetts, Connecticut, California, New Jersey, and Maryland.

McCain probably has the Religious Right sewed up, but he is vulnerable to the more libertarian wing of the repubs who see McCain as another Bush on civil liberties, and Romney is just as scary to those people as McCain is.

IMHO, Romney on the ticket would only help Obama.
