National Bush Legacy Bus Tour Comes to Royal Oak
45-foot, 28-ton Museum on Wheels Features Several Exhibits on How Disastrous Bush/Conservative Policies - Embraced by Rep. Joe Knollenberg - Have Harmed Our National Security, Ruined the Economy, Threatened Our Social Security and Sacrificed Key Domestic Priorities
“Yes Sir, Mr. President!” –Knollenberg Rubberstamped Bush’s Failed Policies 83% of the Time
Washington D.C. – In what supporters of the President have dubbed his "legacy year," Americans United for Change, the progressive issue-advocacy group best known for leading the successful fight to beat back President Bush's effort to privatize Social Security in 2005, has hit the road with its latest effort, the Bush Legacy Bus: a 45-foot long, 28-ton, clean bio-diesel powered museum on wheels featuring several interactive exhibits on how two terms of failed conservative policies supported by Bush and his allies – including Rep. Joe Knollenberg and Senator John McCain – have weakened America's security abroad while neglecting and undermining important priorities here at home.
The latest stop on the national Bush Legacy Tour will be on Tuesday, September 23rd from 11AM – 1PM at the Royal Oak Farmers Market where he people of Michigan will be given an opportunity to reflect on how 8 years of failed Bush/conservative polices have left an economy in shambles, millions more without health insurance, an endless and mismanaged war in Iraq that has stretched our military to the breaking point, and thousands each day losing their jobs, their homes, and their dignity. AUFC will hold Rep. Joe Knollenberg accountable for voting in lockstep with the President 83 percent of the time, according to Congressional Quarterly.
In addition, amid the worst financial crisis on Wall Street since the Great Depression, Americans United for Change will call on Rep. Knollenberg to sign the “Golden Promise to Protect Social Security and Oppose Privatization” – a pledge to reject the renewed Bush-McCain privatization proposal that would divert money from the Social Security trust fund to pay for risky private investment accounts, slash guaranteed benefits, and turn Social Security from a guarantee into a guaranteed gamble in the stock market.
Kicking off across the street from the White House on June 24th, the National Bush Legacy Bus tour has since blanketed half the country – from New Hampshire to New Mexico – and will continue making nearly 150 stops in the hometowns of Bush’s enablers in Congress and symbolic locations like the President’s home away from home in Crawford, Texas.
