The U.S. House race in Michigan's 9th District, pitting former State Senator and State Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters (D) against incumbent Rep. Joe Knollenberg, has seen a great deal of polling the last few days.
With what we've seen, plus the McCain campaign pulling out of Michigan, it's fair to say that the momentum strongly favors Peters, the Democrat.
First, the DCCC's poll, just released today:
Grove Insight for the DCCC. 10/4-5. Likely voters. MoE 4.9%. (8/17-19 numbers)
Peters (D) 46 (41)
Knollenberg (R) 37 (39)
Kevorkian (I) 2 (8)
In two months, that's a swing of 7 points in Peters' direction, and he currently leads by 9. Excellent.
Peters' own internals show a tighter race, but they have our man ahead as well:
Greenberg Quinlan Rosner for Gary Peters. 10/6-7. Likely voters. MoE 4.9%.
Peters (D) 43
Knollenberg (R) 40
Kevorkian (I) 5
No trend lines, but that's polling we can believe in, folks.
Knollenberg has not released his own internals (rather telling, that), so we're left to a somewhat funky independent poll (MoE of 6 points), which shows the race tied:
Mitchell Research & Communications. 9/30-10/2. Likely voters. MoE 6%.
Peters (D) 43
Knollenberg (R) 43
Great.
Three polls, not a single one showing the incumbent ahead. No wonder Joe Knollenberg is flailing to the point where he's begging Sarah Palin to come save his sorry ass.
