Our Debbie - sucking again
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 12:53 PM by placton
"Harry Reid’s solution has created its own set of problems for the speaker. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) all have publicly insisted that the measure emerge more or less unchanged from the House-Senate conference committee that kicked off Tuesday night.

“There’s very little wiggle room,” opined Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow."

yep - the supporter of the bankruptcy bill that helped cause D2 (Depression the Second), and so much more - she's no Carl Levin or Phil Hart - she's our own lil DINO. We need some primary opposition - how could we do worse?

1. It's probably true.
I believe too much power has been given to the GOP, particularly these moderate members. I think Obama, Reid, and Pelosi should have pushed the best stimulus possible rather than watering it down for the sake of "bipartisanship." So there is probably little wiggle room. The moderate GOP members may jump ship if too much is changed.

We could do a lot worse than Stabenow. She voted against the Iraq war which has bankrupted our country. She voted against the first bailout, which threw 700 billion at Wall Street with no conditions. She voted against Alito and Roberts for the Supreme Court. She has made some bad votes (the vote to give the president the right to determine what is torture is the vote that bothers me most) but we could definitely do worse. Maybe she'll get appointed to Secretary of Health and Human Services like the National Organization for Women wants and we'll have to get a new Senator (I think this is very unlikely since I haven't heard her mentioned by anyone other than NOW).

2. I'd rather see Dean get HHS.
He is much mor qualified for the post, and dang it he derserves some spoils of war.

I never got over Debbie's vote for the bankruptsy thing, but yes, we could do worse.

The real probelm here is Reid.

4. We could do far worse. Yes. She needed more time in the House.
But, she's no Phil Hart. I never understood why Michigan Democrats don't favor David Bonior. He's far more Michigan.
