AAR in Detroit screws US again. Drops Hartmann for NASCAR.
In mid sentence the AAR broadcasting station in southern Detroit(actually resides in city of Dearborn) cut Tom Hartmann in mid sentence in order to play a NASCAR program. No notice, no website information, just some forum talk complaining about it for which you must give them your name, address, telephone and zip as mandatory to participate.

I've had my doubts, and the dots keep appearing in connectible spots. AAR mysteriously goes through bankruptcy, with our dear DINO senator's husband somewhere in the administration of AAR walking away just after it goes, he then gets caught with a poor prostitute who goes to jail for being too poor to afford all the drug testing the court mandates while she raises a kid with little or no job prospects. (He does admit his situation immediately to the police, and for that, when she went to jail, it was as though he was never involved.)

The station has been playing promos on top of commercials since it began. The power is so low that it does not reach into downtown Detroit, the west ring of expressway (our 275), anywhere up high such as our 94 (it's closest expressway), or parts north without stupefying static.

It's hard to imagine why people would even want to hear its sports broadcasts.

I wonder if it's more than just here. Washington D.C. is losing its station.

It is with a tin foil hat that I wonder if knowing that Republicans would lose, that the radio frequency holders decided to let AAR and others squat for a while before elections, but cannot allow it to continue any further lest we actually call Republicans for killing our nation and call them on continuing to kill US.

More dots than I can take time to scribe.

1. Was this an existing NASCAR contract?
Our local progressive station cuts out regularly for Washington State University's coaches shows and has been ever since it went to this format in 2003.

2. Never happened before. I listen to it a lot.
Every day I listen. I could listen on line, but I want to keep abreast of the un-connected listener, the swing voter profile. I read DU, I listen and critique them for what they miss.

More dots:

Suddenly music would play back when Randi Rhodes was on, and it would last just as long as some story she had that day.

The monthly Emergency Broadcast System plays in full, never to be heard during a Rush station's program. It's like they are trying to be disconcerting.

The overdubbing was many times each week.

We're fighting a class war. It's bad seed of inherited money against the good common mankind. At least that's what it seems to be when the dots get connected.

6. Now, no one gang up on be, but I think this was a contract issue.

WDTW has periodically, since it's inception, carried NASCAR. They often carry U of D basketball, which doesn't really bother me at all. If the game comes on and I am in my car, I just switch to NPR or plug in my i-pod.

This is the biggest week for NASCAR, as it is the lead-up to the Daytona 500, the biggest party of the year. Today was a dual race as part of the qualifying, and Motor Racing Network likely pressured the AM affil's to carry it live. It is likely WDTW will carry the race on Sunday as well.

Doesn't Schultz carry pretty good ratings from 3-6? I am guessing this is an isolated incident, and there are rarely Thursday events.

OK, you are all asking how I know all this. Well, my S/O works for Jack Roush, a large parts supplier that has a a very successful NASCAR team. She is a fan, but I never followed the sport (groans from the masses) until I met her. If you said NASCAR to me before I met her, I would have said to you something like "Does Richard Petty still race?"

8. SO works at one of the buildings along 96 west of Newburgh.
She always volunteers for the open house events at eh museum/store, espeically when there is a race a MIS. I have met Jack and some of the drivers.

What I like is that P-51 that he flies, or the engine and prop they have at the museum. I see that and think of my dad in The Bulge when the 51's flew over on runs ahead of the infantry.

Like I said, I can tell you more about the current Tigers' problems than I can tell you about NASCAR, but Jack was a pleasant dude to talk to and seemed happy that I attended in support of one of his employees.

3. I was like WTF?
I didn't hear Thom come on at all today. They often interrupt WDTW at night for sports, but this was the first time I've ever heard this during the day -- went right through Ed's show. I hope this isn't the beginning of the end.

4. I'm bummed. Have a crappy boom box at work.
Can't even re-tune the station without knowing what's on.

This stimulus bill gives them plenty of reason to do this kind of attack.

5. It was weird
I got Press, then Steph and then when Thom was supposed to come on, BOOM -- NASCAR from Florida. I had an event out of the office at 3, but if I hadn't, I would have been streaming Nancy subbing for Randi. Typically, as soon as Thom is done, I start streaming NovaM.

9. WTF NASCAR????
I am in and out of my car all day long,
and that freaked me out!

Especially during Thom's slot. I felt
ripped off!

I've heard them preempt for basketball
before, but this was like a slap in the
face...

NASCAR....!

I had to wait for station I.D. to hear
them say 1310...Detroit's Progressive
Talk Station...before I switched off...

:hi:
