GRAND RAPIDS -- Incomes are down, unemployment payments are up, and a struggling economy kept Michigan in the loser's column in a survey of fourth-quarter 2008 pay nationwide.
"Net earnings fell almost 1 percentage point. That's basically the income of workers," economist David Lense said of Michigan's results. "That's much larger than the decline for the U.S., which was 0.25 percentage point."
The losses were nearly across the board, he said.
The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis crunched the data for the quarterly analysis released Tuesday.
