I think once people get to know him, they'll like him. He needs to get started quickly, though. August is only six months away and Cox has a big head start raising money.

but he seems to be the most progressive of the possible candidates.

I'm not really concerned about Cox...I don't think he'll even be the Republican nominee. The first issue is getting the nomination. I read that Dillon may have raised quite a bit of money:

Unfortunately, money is very important which is why Denise Ilitch and Bob Bowman are being mentioned as possible candidates. The fact that Dillon raised a million dollars fairly quickly is worrisome. He might be getting more support than I expected.

Dear Friend,

For the past weeks, I've been traveling across our state exploring a possible run for Governor. I've thought it over. And I've made a decision. I'll be announcing my decision on Monday, February 8th. After meeting people across Michigan, I can sense that people in this state are fed-up and frustrated, anxious and angry - and so am I.

The state I love is on the ropes. People feel the walls closing in around them. Job loss, home foreclosure, rising health care costs, jacked up credit card rates and rising tuition are crushing too many Michigan families. People are hurting.

The clueless leadership at the State Capitol doesn't get it. The so-called leaders in the Washington bubble don't get it either. And the Wall Street wizards who helped put us here definitely don't get it.

Michigan needs a Governor who will get up every day ready to fight for workers and families. We need a new vision and a different kind of leadership to get Michigan back on track. We have the best workforce in America right here but we need leadership as strong as our backs and as innovative as our minds.

12. Dillon could probably defeat McCotter

As much as I dislike McCotter, I probably wouldn't vote for Dillon.

Dillon will run for governor. With Denise Ilitch choosing not to run, the race will be Bernero vs. Dillon. He has a 50/50 chance of getting the nomination so there's no reason to run for a House seat that will probably be gone after redistricting.

Dillon sucks, but Mr. McCotter? He is like Uriah Heep incarnate.

but sometimes voting for the lesser of two evils isn't worth it. I won't support Dillon, whether it's for governor (primary or general election) or the House.

Hopefully Bernero runs a good campaign because it's either him or nobody for me....unless an unexpected candidate joins the race for governor.

Our DLC-connected political franchise here in
Michigan will do whatever it takes to knife
down Bernero, so he will need us.

16. Dillon needs to stop reaching

for the brass ring and think about what's best for the party. imho, Mosher, who hasn't won the support of the DCCC, doesn't have a chance at taking out McCotter. Despite his flaws, the Dems need a candidate like Dillon to run against McCotter. This would also eliminate all of the waste involved in a primary battle between Dillon and Bernero. Any political donation in the face of a primary is essentially wasted and can lead to political disengagement and disgust. I know that some people advocate for primaries as a way to determine the priorities of the party, but we can't lose sight of the fact that the general election is going to be a very tough fight. The Dem candidate is going to need every last resource available in these tight economic times and can't afford a big primary battle.

I think the risk of losing the seat to redistricting is overblown, especially now that Ehlers is retiring. Given that Hokestra is not running for re-election, Dillon could potentially be one of as many as three freshman in the michigan congressional delegation. With Dillon's history and influence in the michigan leg, they would probably find a way to draw the districts such that he would keep his seat.

17. I would vote for Mosher but not Dillon

Dillon will run for governor, I have no doubts about it. I think a primary is good since it will allow Bernero to build name recognition.

I wouldn't want to keep his seat if he were to win McCotter's seat.
