Anybody going to participate in the US Social Forums coming to Detroit next week?
My daughter's involved and my sister-in-law is coming
in from Vermont as an organizer.

I'm bummed that it will be one of the two busiest
weeks for me at work, but I'm going to try to sneak
in a lecture or two.

Check it out:

1. I wondered if anyone was going
Not sure what my schedule looks like yet. I kind of take it day to day now.

2. Luke's brother is in town to organize for the Vermont peeps...
He says that there will be over 30,000 attendees
from all over the country.

Apparently, they haven't done a very good job
of including the locals ... I've barely seen
any info about it here.

5. Nary a word on the news or in the paper
I bet if it were something like CPAC we would have heard about it ad nauseum.

Turns out I've been far too busy all week to even think about it.

6. There have been a ton of local groups there (and individuals)
Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 08:11 PM by Cal Carpenter
including a lot of organized labor and other worker's rights groups, the Moratorium Now group (for foreclosure and utility shut offs), churches involved in the marches and some events, various nonprofits, tours of Detroit with various themes, and much more.

In addition to Cobo, workshops and events were held at other locations like the UAW building, WSU, WCCC, a couple different churches..

Not to mention that between the programming on the first and last days (tomorrow being the last), basically a whole day is *devoted* to issues facing Detroit, as presented by local people.

Just for the record.

eta: here's a sample of the workshops tomorrow morning. Tuesday morning was similar - it's all Detroit

3. Adrian, Reggie and Donna from SICKO will be there.
Sharon, see Andrian Campbell's posts on Facebook. If I can, I want to get down there once I find out what time my heroes will be speaking on Thursday or Friday.
