Michigan NOW likes Virg

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero continues to rake in endorsements from traditional Democratic Party constituencies. Today comes the announcement that Michigan National Organization for Women has given Bernero its nod.

"Mr. Bernero impressed us with his commitment to reproductive choice for women, economic equity through building jobs for all Michigan workers, education, and rights for all Michigan citizens regardless of gender or sexual orientation," said Renee Beeker, NOW PAC chair.

He can add NOW's blessing to his endorsements from much of big labor, including the UAW, AFSCME and the AFL-CIO.

But it remains to be seen whether the endorsements translate into campaign cash. Bernero has yet to run any TV ads, while his opponent in the Democratic primary, House Speaker Andy Dillon, on Monday launched his second spot.

I like the cut of his jib. Virg tells it like it is, and is a fighter for workers. Dillon is a tool.

6. I caught a debate recently

between Virg and Dillon. Dillon was as electrifying as watching paint dry while Virg was on fire. I thought, yep, that's the guy I want to put up against the Rethug that gets the nom, a real fighter.
