Non-political question (Paulding Lights)
For those of you living in Michigan-- could you tell me anything about
the Paulding Light(s)? I saw a program about it the other night and
found it intriguing.

Thanks

1. Its either an urban legend or for real however you think of it.
The legend is that there was a railroad there and a signal guy died on the track by trying signal an oncoming train about a stalled train on the tracks. The second train crushed him. So every night for the past 40 years thousands and thousands of people have come to see the light. Supposedly the light is there every night trying to warn the train. Some people call it the Dog Meadow Light.

2. Don't know!
No one has been able to determine its cause, apparently, though many have tried.
Usually a professional steps in and explains the reason in a fully scientific
way. I'm just surprised no one has so far. (That I know of)

I'm not saying it's paranormal but, at this time, it's unexplained and has been
for 40 years. Like the Marfa lights in Texas.

From Wikipedia:

In 2010, the Paulding Light was investigated on the SyFy television show Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files. The investigators tried several experiments to recreate the light including using car headlights from a nearby road and a flyover by an airplane with a spotlight. They could not conclude what was causing the light to appear.

5. "No one has been able to determine its cause"
It's been determined a number of times as to what the cause is (it's headlights) but there are people who just refuse to believe that. Why didn't Fact or Faked have a telescope? Especially one with a camera on it?

"Next, the group sent team member Bill Norkus out to that spot on US-45. He recorded when vehicles passed the spot they’d seen in the telescope. Meanwhile, other students stayed in Paulding, logging light appearances. Sure enough, every time the Paulding Light appeared, a car drove by the spot."

There's even a FB page on the Paulding Light.

3. The first recorded report of the light...
Edited on Mon Aug-16-10 01:28 AM by Kaleva
was back in 1966. A section of highway 45 is in line with where people stand to see the lights and where the lights are said to appear.

The most common story behind the light is that it is the ghost of a railroad brakeman who was killed sometime back in the 1800's altough no one knows the name of the man or even the name of the railroad company that this man worked for.
