MERIDIAN TWP. - The Okemos restaurant where a child got his hand caught in a meat grinder Thursday afternoon has closed temporarily, and police said Friday they are investigating whether the incident constitutes a crime.
An employee who answered the phone at Lucky House Restaurant, 1741 W. Grand River Ave., Friday confirmed the incident occurred at the restaurant, and said he did not know when the restaurant would reopen. He referred further questions to the restaurant's owner, who he said was at the hospital.
"When children are severely hurt like this, we always work with child protective services to find out what happened," Frenger said. "And eventually, we'll send it to (the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office) for review."
According to scanner traffic, the child lost about a liter of blood. His hand was reportedly cut off to about the wrist.
