Dear Lynda,
Thank you for contacting me about the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. I share your concerns.
I share President Obama's commitment to repealing this policy, which many current and former Generals and Admirals have said undermines the strength of our military with the loss of talented individuals at a time when our country needs them most.
I am a proud cosponsor of the Military Readiness Enhancement Act of 2010, which would repeal the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy.
On May 28, 2010, the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2011, which would allow for a repeal of the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. When this bill came up for a vote in the U.S. Senate it was blocked by a filibuster. You can count on my support when this legislation comes up for a vote again.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please continue to keep me informed about issues of concern to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
