Public workers feel under attack amid flurry of bills

Across Michigan, teachers, state government workers, university employees, police and firefighters are struggling to hang onto the protections they've had in the past. Bills have been introduced to end binding arbitration for disputes between first responders and local governments, require all public workers to pay at least 20 percent of their health care costs, limit the issues on which teachers can bargain and make at least some portions of the state right-to-work areas where workers covered by union contracts could choose not to pay union dues.

2. They "feel" attacked?

...hell, it's an all out war against them. Ya, I would think that they would feel attacked.

The question is, will the voting public be any smarter the next time they vote?

3. They had an opportunity to elect a stalwart and champion of worker causes in Verg Bernero.

And yet, Snyder was propelled into office with the help of the Koch Bros. and not enough Democrats voting for Verg. It's very sad.

4. 2010 Election

The economy was in the gutter and Independents voted Republican because they blamed Obama and Michigan's Governor Granholm instead the damn Bush Administration that caused the whole mess!

Just an observation. My frustration with what happened in November keeps me sitting on the sidelines until I start really seeing a local media that is willing to call Snyder and his band a fascists out on some of this stuff. I know that may be wishful thinking, but you get the idea.

7. I was looking at a chart that showed all the changes coming up...

for the Michigan taxes. People are going to be blown away when they go to fill out their forms next January. Because of the poor media coverage, there are a lot of people who have no idea that any changes took place, or just think...ok, so people have to pay taxes on their pensions... 'bout time.
Homestead tax deduction for many...gone
Political deductions...gone
Charitable deductions...gone
Higher education deductions...gone
and of course pensions taxed unless you are over 67.

Looking at the list I was struck by who ultimately would be hurt by these changes, and it all goes back to those who can afford it the least. Not one of the changes will truly affect those that can afford it. And the real kicker is where these new dollars will go. They won't balance the budget. They will be spent in tax cuts for corporations who don't even need the cuts.

It's criminal and it makes me very sick and very sad, and soon much poorer to boot.

Please volunteer some time to collect signatures. Roughly at least 50%-70% of the people you ask will sign.
