Occupy Kalamazoo to protest Wednesday, mirroring sentiments of Occupy Wall Street

KALAMAZOO — As protesters enter their fifth week of Occupy Wall Street, a local group is gathering in Kalamazoo on Wednesday to show solidarity.

Occupy Kalamazoo will have its first protest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday on the corner of the Kalamazoo Mall and Michigan Avenue.

And, like its New York counterpart, the group is targeting the financial system. The location of their downtown location is near several national banks, including PNC and Bank of America.

The protest is “an immediate action to show solidarity with Occupy Wall Street,” said Ben Ayer, co-chair of the Kalamazoo Peace Center ...

KALAMAZOO — Occupy Kalamazoo protesters took to the streets of downtown Kalamazoo today.

Protesters started the day around 10 a.m. in Bronson Park making signs. About an hour later, they moved to the corner of Michigan Avenue and the Kalamazoo Mall.

From there, they moved around downtown, often finding banks to protest in front of. The crowd, which grew to about 200 protesters, spent a good deal of time in front of Bank of America at the corner of Rose Street and Michigan Avenue ...
