“Protecting Our Families: A Rally in Support of Fairness for the LGBT Community,” has been organized by a coalition of LGBT organizations, and individuals to demonstrate the power and size of Michigan’s LGBT community. Legislators must recognize that further attempts to marginalize our community will be met with strong resistance.
The rally will begin at 11 AM on the Capitol steps, and will be in full swing as the legislature convenes at noon. Speakers will include Representative Chris Kolb (D-53rd District), who will address the necessity of adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the Elliot/Larson Civil Rights Act. Other speakers will include families who have been directly affected by the amendment to the constitution. Afterwards, participants will be encouraged to speak with their legislators about the concerns of our community.
Help us reach our goal of 2000 participants—the more bodies on the steps, the more attention we’ll get.
