Air America in Ann Arbor
Does anyone else have bad reception with Air America out of Ann Arbor? Criminy, I only live 10 miles north of Ann Arbor and by the time I'm a few miles outside of town, the static is so bad that I have to switch to something else. It is only the station 1290 that I have this problem with. Do they have a not so good antenna or something?

1. 1290 has always had a lousy range
They need to move AA to 101.9 now that FM 106 in Detroit has gone back to country.

I worked for WIQB years ago when they owned 101.9 FM and 1290 AM. Sometimes we couldn't even get 1290 inside the station.

2. Wattage Issue
1290 is only 500 Watts during the day and 26 watts at night. :-( My lightbulbs put out more energy! Another factor is their transmiter is located south west of Ann Arbor. :radio:

3. Have you tried....
1310 am out of Detroit? I have found that even though I am right here in A2, I often get a better signal out of Detroit. I should add that I got so frustrated with the weak signal in the evening that I went out and bought XM radio....I never knew who Mike Malloy was until I started using it.

Not sure if 1290 will improve their signal or not. I think they're located in Saline.

5. they aren't on 1530 anymore
switched to a different frequency in Cincy. Which, to my knowledge, isn't available after sunset.

9. No can do.
AAR was getting poor ratings in Cincinnati. So, they switched frequencies. 1530 is a HUGE 50,000 Watt station and it now carries sports only. 1360, which did have the sports on it is a 5000 watt station and now has AAR.

AAR was barely top 20 out of 30 stations, so they decided not to "waste" a stong signal on it.

8. Air America Radio
To keep up with the latest from Air America, check out; http://www.airamerica.com/

Also, another site that has more up to date news, and some rumors, about Air America Radio is at: http://www.radio-info.com/
check out the "news/talk" area;
or this link may work for you:

The station at 1290-AM in Saline, just outside of Ann Arbor, has a very weak signal.

You can also stream Air America Radio online.
And, many of the hosts can be listened to through their websites.

There are a lot of ways to listen in. Some just aren't as easy as we would like.
