IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR MEETUP this Saturday (and please RSVP here)
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 11:10 AM by SharonRB
For those of you who really want to see Nancy Skinner on Saturday at the meetup, there is a bit of a change in schedule. Nancy will be there right at the beginning for only about a half hour, at which time she will have to leave to go speak at a Wal Mart rally. SHE WILL RETURN AFTER THE RALLY, however, it may not be until about 3:00, depending on where the rally is being held. As of this writing, that isn't known yet.

We only have the shelter until 3, but there is no reason we have to leave the park right at that time. If no one else has reserved the shelter, we may even be able to remain in it.

Things to remember:
No alcohol

No dogs

Bring your own food, beverages, plates, utensils, etc. (you're welcome to bring food to share, but it's not required). We may pick up some chips or other snacks, but don't count on much food being provided -- we have no idea how many people are coming, so it was too difficult to plan for food.

Bring blankets, chairs, etc. if you want something to sit on -- the shelter only has 4 picnic tables.

Please let us know in this thread if you're coming -- it would be nice to have some idea how many we're expecting. You can also spread the word to other Dems/progressives -- especially those in the 9th district who may really be interested in hearing Nancy speak.

Go to this thread for details about location, etc. if you're not aware of them:

I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.
Sharon

2. Why don't you just bring them with you?
That's a real bummer if you can't come. I was really looking forward to meeting you.

He may not fit in. But, I can try.

7. The 81-year-old part is okay if he can stand the heat
The Libertarian part...well, that might be different -- you may be right. But I hope you can try at least for a little while.

3. No Dog? Does that mean me?
Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

I will be there, and may have 1 or 2 in tow from Farmington. I saw Nancy about an hour ago, and yes, she will be there from 12-12:30.

Look for the blue Pontiac Vibe with the guy in the funny glasses. (Bioptic telescopes.)

Should have cooler weather too, if the current forecast is accurate.

8. Walmart rally?
What's that about?

Not sure if I can go to either, my poor car is in week three of its body shop adventures - but if it's within biking distance, I might be able to go.

I sure hope you can make it to the picnic. I also hope people will stay at the picnic and not all take off for the rally!

10. I plan to be there, but...
I have to tell you, Alexander, the wonder dog, is not pleased. He was planning to be there, even asked me to give him a good brushing and a haircut!

Sure, he looks innocent enough. Let me tell you though, he has a very devious sense of humor, and a memory that any non-Repuglican elephant would be proud of. I'm sure he'll find some way to make me pay for this.
See you Saturday!

She has five of them (I think -- maybe it's "only" four)!

16. You would love Alexander.
He has the disposition of a saint, loves people, being out and about, kids, and long naps. I wish I could bring him, too. Maybe you'll get to meet him at another event.

Sorry you have to leave the doggies home. If you brought one, wouldn't you have to bring all of them, anyway?

17. Nope, just Alex. He's the one who loves the spotlight.
Roufous is too goofy for public consumption. Maia is afraid of just about everyone. Actually Dottie would be good with a crowd, too, but she would probably prefer to be set loose to see if she could clear the park of all other furred or feathered beasts.
They're used to Alex getting to go places. Rouf is the only one who seems to mind. He likes to go, too!
Maybe at the next event at another location.

14. A traffic light is at the park entrance on Farmington Road....
After turning onto the Heritage Park entrance, go past the stop sign to the first left which is a small gravel road. You'll see a park sign that says "Central Parking". Follow this road a short distance to the parking lot. There is a very short walkway next to the handicap parking spot to get to our Central Shelter area. Voila! You've reached our picnic area. :-)

Note: If you get to the big shelter area with the playground equipment, you've gone too far.

Look for balloons tied to a post on the road to our picnic area (Central Shelter).

See you there!

18. Hi Sharon
I sure wish I could be there, I just can't see driving that far. I'm still pretty sore from surgery and have recently returned to work. I'm pooped.
I will be there in spirit though.

20. We might have more than we thought.
I was trying to research some candidates when I ran across this...

Blogger Meetup Saturday in Farmington Hills by: lpackard
Wed Aug 02, 2006 at 21:28:30 PM EDT Democratic Underground is organizing a picnic on Saturday August 5th - at Heritage Park in Farmington Hills. Noon to 3pm or later.
Read all about it here.

Miss out on the DailyKos dinner meetup in Ann Arbor last month or Matt's birthday party in Lansing? Here's your chance to meet some fellow Internet-savvy Dems. Sounds like Congressional candidate Nancy Skinner will be there too.

Although not technically a blog, there's a lot of cross-over between DU and DailyKos and MichiganLiberal, so I thought I'd post about it here one more time.

and a note was also on this site:

Could be even "funner" than we planned!

21. I knew Michigan Liberal, Drinking Liberally and the Farmington Dems
knew about it. Nancy's campaign also sent out an e-mail to their list. I hope we have a good turnout, but that the non-DUers are the right kind, if you know what I mean (liberals/progressives like us). I'm sure we'll have fun. I've been afraid hardly anyone would show, so I'm kind of glad it's being spread around a bit.

23. Welcome back, Ida
I hope things went well. Try to get there by noon if you want to be sure to get a chance to meet Nancy. She's supposed to come back after the town hall/rally, but we don't know exactly what time that will be.

24. Running Late and Moving Slow....
Brain still in the wrong time zone this morning! :) See everyone soon -- its a 45 minute drive, so it looks like I'll probably miss Nancy, since I'm not even ready to go yet. Step One, step two....
