Did you vote? How did it go?

To my surprise, of the four voting booths for my precinct (another precinct’s voters voted on the other side of the gym), only one was not being used when I got my ballot. I can’t say I expected anyone else there in the middle of the afternoon (besides election workers).

I voted on the Democratic side of the ballot. I proudly showed my support for Governor Granholm, Senator Stabenow, David LaGrand, and the other Democrats running unopposed. I then proceeded to vote in the primaries for US House and circuit judge, and on county and city proposals. Voting for myself (and two others) for precinct delegate was the best part of the my experience, however.

Light turnout seems to be the order of this election day.

1. Just fine, a little warm in the polling place (church) for the seniors

monitoring the election. No AC. Got three or four other churches in the whole area w/AC and you'd think they could pick one with cool air for these people.

2. It went well

I was the only person in the small cafeteria they used for voting, but otherwise things went smoothly. Voted all the way down on the Democratic side of the ballot for Gov. Granholm, Senator Stabenow, Jamie Curtis and Jack Minore.

3. I voted after work, at about 6:00

The poll workers said it had been busy all day, surprisingly. However, I live in Huntington Woods, which is very politically active (and Democratic). I was surprised the turnout out was high because there were no primaries on the Dem side of the ballot, other than for county convention delegate.

4. No problems here.

The ladies checking the poll books, and distributing the ballots seemed comfortable with what they were doing. There were 5 voting booths, with pen provided. The man in front of me was hanging on to some of the literature passed out in front of the building, and she politely told him he'd have to put it away. Another man spoiled his ballot by splitting his ticket, and they calmly explained what he had done wrong, and gave him a new ballot (the op-scan machine had caught the error).
I got a chance to look at the DRE for handicapped, but I couldn't tell much about it without a ballot to use. I spoke to one of the workers, and she said only one person had used it today, and they had a bit of a hard time because they forgot their glasses. She did go over some of the features with me. She said it was too bad I hadn't talked to her before I voted because she would have suggested I use it. I told her I wouldn't have used it, anyway so it was ok. (I don't think so...the op-scan is bad enough.)
There was a steady stream of voters, but not crowded.

5. Everything went smoothly

I voted around 9 a.m. and was #109 in my precinct. I voted for Granholm, Stabenow, Leigh Greden, Jeff Irwin, and John Heiftje for Ann Arbor mayor.

SO called from the booth around 4 p.m. and I told him who to vote for. A fine tradition we've had for many years....:bounce:

6. Voter number 9 in my precinct. And...

I went back later to work for Nancy. In about 1 1/2 hours, I caught folks as they walked out, as she was unopposed in Dem Primary. Got some volunteers, handed out about 35 pieces of lit, and talked to a few already online with our train to glory..

The good news: This was precinct 5-6, which was 3/4 Reshit about 4 years ago.

Go Nancy, go Nancy. Damn it, send that media here, because they will have to watch the race in Michigan's ninth.

More numbers tomorrow...and they are promising. :)

7. It was a 20 hour day and I enjoyed every minute of it

The weather was wonderful for sitting on the lawn at the library working the poll for my candidate, Mr. Tim Melton of Auburn Hills, representing the 29th district for State House of Represenatives. Voter turnout was low, and I managed to offend a republican or two... but it was great. One woman who I attempted to pass out literature to, told me that she was Republican, I told her I was sorry to hear that and that I guess she hadn't had enough yet, (she was driving a pretty klunky car) so it looked to me like she was suffering somewhat. Anyway, Tim won over 4 other democrats, we partied at his house after, even my 13 yr old joined in. We get a couple of weeks off now, but after that, it's back to work.

8. I was number 108 in my precinct

at about 6pm.

The campaigning folks outside came to pass out their literature. Rocca or one of his supporters was the first to greet me. He started to hand me some literature, I asked "Republican?" He said yes. My brainfilter temporarily shut off, and I heard myself saying "ICK!" Like I'd stepped in dog poop or something.

ahahaha poor guy. It wasn't planned, though - it was just a gut reaction.

9. I hope my vote counted

I voted for every Democrat except Granholm.

I will not be voting for a Governor this election. Her veto of the helmet law lost my vote. Please before I get flamed, I went through this on another thread. I contributed financially to having the mandatory helmet law repealed. She went against my wishes, as is her right. It is also my right not to support those against my beliefs.

Never a vote for a Repug, but no Dem for Governor this year either.

14. yeah, lots of people here seem to have their panties in a bunch

over the helmet law thing. but why can't there be some kind of a compromise? I think requiring helmets for less experienced riders may be the way to go. Say maybe 2 years? Heck, if a rider with two years experience on these roads doesn't realize for himself that wearing a helmet is the wise thing to do... then maybe taking the chance of having their heads meet the hard pavement of reality, is the only recourse. Men too, should have the right to choose.

10. Went well

I certainly prefer the optical scan (with the verifiable paper ballots) over the archaic voting machines we had previously used.

I was sad to see that scum Devos pick up more votes than Granholm in Macomb County.
I am hoping that this is not indicative of anything (the turnout was ridiculously light)

13. Crossover voters?

I imagine many people crossed over and voted in the Republican US Senate primary, and didn't think to not vote for DeVos.

15. Macomb County is a very "odd" political area

"We" were responsible for the term "Reagan Democrats." I suspect that the Devos votes are indicative of how this county would vote if the election were held today.

My hope is that in the next few months Granholm will get her message out and counter the slimy Devos campaign.

16. Better than average turn out here in Livonia.

I voted for our wonderful Dems and also had an opportunity to meet Tony Trupiano outside of my polling place, who is running against Thaddeus McCotter in November. Tony was just great and I look forward to doing my part to kick McCotter's crooked ass right out of office in November. ( He took money from Abramoff and Delay, etc. and loves everything about George Bush!)
