3. Smart? How so?
Picking a woman from the other side of the state?

I mean, Dick Posthumus picked someone from the Detroit area for his running mate, and that didn't work out. Not to mention Kerry picking Edwards. (Well, that was different with Diebold, etc.)

This appears to be politically motivated. Sure Democrats do that too (picking a running mate who can help them win; i.e. Granholm picking a man with legislative experience), but just because it's good politically doesn't mean it's good for the state.

IMO, Democrats need to question whether Johnson is ready to become Governor. Remember that if the governor resigns or dies, the Lietenant Governor becomes governor. If something were to happen to Granholm, I have every confidence that Cherry would make a fine governor. The same cannot be said of Johnson.

4. MDP Chairman Brewer calls it a "Marriage of the Extreme"
http://www.michigandems.com/081406prs2.html

“It is no surprise that extreme Dick DeVos chose extreme Ruth Johnson as his running mate,” Brewer said. “Johnson met every one of DeVos’ litmus tests because they both are out of step with mainstream Michigan.”

“Ruth Johnson has a record of being opposed to: stem cell research, raising the minimum wage, affirmative action, a women’s right to choose including victims of rape and incest, improving water quality, support for cities including Detroit, improving education, and stopping insurance company redlining,” Brewer added. “The DeVos/Johnson ticket is a perfect match of two extremists.”

“Governor Granholm and Lt. Governor Cherry have been a powerful voice for the entire state of Michigan. They are executing the nation’s most comprehensive and aggressive jobs plan, protecting public education and are fighting for healthcare for everyone,” Brewer continued. “Voters now have a distinct contrast between the extreme right wing policies of Dick DeVos and Ruth Johnson and the Granholm Administration which is putting Michigan first.”

6. Ruth Johnson, Clerk of Oakland County
The other thing that concerns me is that Ruth Johnson is the Clerk in Oakland county and has some jurisdiction over the counting votes.

I called Ruth Johnson's office today to see if she intends to resign her post as clerk now that she is DeVos' running mate. I have not yet heard back from her office. This is akin to Ken Blackwell being Secretary of State while he's running for governor in Ohio. We all know how that will work out.

Let's demand Johnson step down from her position as Clerk.

5. Dick thinks he's courting Oakland Co. votes, although his wife tried to
take over (unsuccessfully) the Oakland Co. GOP. Does she, ER Dick think the Oakland Co. voters will forget that Team DeVos tried to cram some Grand Rapids Christian Fundies down the throats of multi-cultural Oakland Co.? Memo to Dick: The people in Oakland County aren't stupid. That is all.

9. Picking an Oakland County female, is that like perfuming a pig?

http://list.msu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0506&L=equity&D=0&T=0&P=696

Ms. Whitmer said Democrats decided not to offer any amendments - they drafted more than 300 just in case - because the bill is bad enough on its own that trying to amend it would be like "perfuming a pig."
