G4G Talking points for 09-08
The Most Aggressive Economic Plan in the Country: Governor Granholm announced funding for 61 cutting edge job creation projects this week, and today she travels to the groundbreaking of a new Toyota technical center that she helped bring to Washtenaw County. The Governor’s jobs plan is starting to pay dividends.

DeVos Slashed Michigan Jobs and Invested in China: On Wednesday, the Michigan Democratic Party released an ad laying out the stark contrast between Dick DeVos and Governor Granholm on jobs. DeVos slashed jobs in Michigan and created jobs in China, while Governor Granholm went to Japan to bring jobs to Michigan.

The Truth About DeVos and China: Dick DeVos immediately claimed that the charges were a “lie.” But the record is clear: Dick DeVos cut Amway jobs in Michigan and created Amway jobs in China. That’s not the kind of leadership Michigan needs. Today, the Granholm Campaign is releasing an ad that describes the truth about DeVos and China. Bush and DeVos Share the Wrong Priorities for Michigan: President Bush found time to headline political fundraisers for Republican candidates in Michigan today, but still hasn’t found time to meet with the CEO’s of the Big Three automakers. President Bush’s refusal to enforce fair trade agreements and provide real health care solutions is ravaging the Michigan economy. Meanwhile, Dick DeVos is trying unsuccessfully to downplay his ties to President Bush, even though he has been one of President Bush’s biggest supporters.

Headlines from Around the State

The Detroit News: GOP might skip Bush's visit to state
President's low ratings in Michigan could keep many Republicans from Bouchard's fundraiser
President Bush sprints through southeast Michigan for a three-hour visit today to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Republican Senate candidate Michael Bouchard -- and to raise a tough question for other GOP politicians. Do you stand beside the standard bearer of your party, a president still popular with his conservative base? Or do you maintain a distance from a politician to whom most of America -- and Michigan -- gives a failing grade? Today's biggest no-show: gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos, who has been a stalwart Bush supporter -- financially and otherwise. DeVos spokesman John Truscott said meetings in Ann Arbor and his own fundraiser in Saugatuck will keep DeVos away.

The Flint Journal: Toyota payoff
Selling Toyota 690 acres of state land on the cheap for a new technical center is paying dividends before the first shovelful of dirt has been turned. With that ground-breaking scheduled for Friday, the development south of Ann Arbor is now slated to amount to a $187-million investment, with the company recently announcing it also will include a $37-million safety testing facility there. That's quite a payoff for Lansing's decision to sell Toyota this old state hospital site for $11 million… the potential benefit from 400 research jobs expected from the giant Japanese automaker made the decision by Gov. Jennifer Granholm and the Legislature the correct one. Already, hiring as been completed for 127 of those positions, which will swell Toyota's Ann Arbor-area employment that currently numbers around 750. By 2010, this site and another research campus will have nearly 1,200 high-wage workers, the kind of jobs Michigan needs by the thousands as its economy restructures.

1. Re: the MDP ad
Dick has expanded his repoitre to include blackmail. I saw this interesting report in a transcript from WZZM 13 News, Grand Rapids report yesterday;

WZZM13 News requested an interview with Mr. DeVos this afternoon, his campaign manager said if we were pulling the ad he would be available, however, if we were not, they would not be inclined to change their schedule.

Luckily the station isn't pulling the ad;

WZZM 13 has determined it will continue running the campaign spot, saying in a statement: "After reviewing the spot and the documentation from both sides, we see no reason to pull the ad."

DeVos can't dispute the ad becuase it is filled with Facts. Once again the truth squad reaffirms that;
