President arrives in FlintFundraiser stop will take him to Clarkston

FLINT ( WJRT) - (09/08/06)-- President George Bush has arrived in Flint to attend a fundraiser for Michigan Republicans.

He's in town to attend a luncheon for Republican Senate candidate Joe Bouchard. The goal is $1 million.
Before President Bush headed south, he presented local resident Greg Ybarra with the President's Volunteer Service Award.

Ybarra is an emergency coordinator for the Genesee County Amateur Radio Emergency Service. He's on call 24 hours a day, ready to provide communication during a disaster across the country or a fire right here in Genesee County.

He was nominated for the award two weeks ago.

Protesters positioned outside of the airport hope the president takes a look their way as his motorcade passes by. Many are holding signs, asking President Bush to meet with Big Three auto executives now, rather than wait until after elections.

One set of signs even shows the distance from the airport to the headquarters of each company.

During his trip to Clarkston, the president won't face any traffic jams. Police have shut down some surface streets as well as parts of I-75.

At noon, northbound I-75 between I-475 and the U.S.-23 split was closed for the president's trip south. All traffic was rerouted to northbound I-475. The exit to Bristol Road was also closed while the president's motorcade made its way onto I-75.

For the president's northbound trip at 3 p.m., southbound I-75 between U.S.-23 and I-475 will be closed. All southbound traffic in that area will be detoured onto U.S.-23.
