The Michigan Democrats have apparently thrown the "D"LC types out for good, because not only do they have a more populist message that people can relate to, where they actually address themselves to the employees and citizens, and not the corporate "leaders," but they have a new group of ads that have a targetted focus, some real attack, and most exciting, they are starting to be troublemakers! This new/recent "DeVos is Bush" ad is so exciting because, they must have done polling and other research to show that it is "all right" and even popular now, to directly attack Bush, as Republicans have become so completely corrupt that they are getting to be just generally hated as a group. Very exciting and hopeful to think about.
The ad begins with a grinning picture of DeVos on the screen, which stays there for the first part of the ad; the NARRATOR speaks: "Dick DeVos has been a top supporter of Bush economic policies, that have outsourced tens of thousands of our jobs overseas." (On screen, source credits: The Wall Street Journal 12/28/00, Detroit Free Press 9/28/06, Mackinac Center for Public Policy 9/16/04) NARRATOR: "Dick DeVos and Amway lobbied for Bush's unfair trade agreements, that created jobs in places like China, while Michigan was losing jobs." (Amway Lobbying Report 2/14/01, www.uscc.gov , 2005 Annual Report) Meanwhile, the DeVos picture has by this time begun to morph completely, and now becomes a similarly grinning picture of George Bush. NARRATOR: "So if you love what George W. Bush has done for America, you'll love Dick DeVos." Now, the Bush picture morphs back to being again the grinning DeVos picture as at the beginning. NARRATOR: "George Bush--Dick DeVos. Do you see any difference?" Paid for by Michigan Democratic State Central Committee
It has been really great the way Granholm, during the debates and with these ads, etc., has been answering the Repuiblican lies about Michigan's economy and job loss, 1) By noting that Bush and deregulating Republicans have destroyed our whole economy, manufacturing base, system of public education, etc., and that the whole country under Bush has been suffering the same problems, especially the Midwest and South, and 2) By referring to DeVos's own heavy outsourcing and "free trade"-disaster participation, so that now, every DeVos attack on Granholm for "Michigan losing jobs," becomes a direct attack on DeVos, who caused it and who outsources as a policy. They can't even use it as a standard Republican misleading slander, because every time now, it just points to themselves, to Amway's outsourcing to China, etc.
