PROTEST BUSH IN MICHIGAN!
The Fund-Raiser-in-Chief, The Liar-in-Chief, George W. Bush is coming to Michigan Thursday, Oct. 26. Didn't know?
It's not public information. His polling numbers make him too unpopular for that. It's a private fundraiser for Republican Senatorial candidate Mike Bouchard. The second one, in fact.
Let's continue the tradition of not making it easy for these sneak visits to raise mega $$$.
Think how Bush refused to meet with the automotive leaders, but can fly in for fundraisers. Think about Iraq. And, the rest of it.

I will try to make it. I should be able to get out to Warren after work, as long as I don't have any unexpected meetings on Thursday. I'll look for you, if I can make it.

I find it interesting that he didn't have the time in his schedule to meet with the automakers, yet he has no trouble fitting in two visits to raise money for the challenger to Stabenow's seat in Congress.
The cost to the taxpayers for this trip is approximately $1 million when you add in all the details: local police man-hours, military personnel, presidential security staff, giant aircraft, jet fuel and restricted highways. This is only an estimate, because the actual cost of running the pretzelnut's flying limo is classified information. An Air Force estimate to run Air Force One is $56,800 per hour.
During the 2004 election the pretzelnut logged in over 68,000 miles on our dime while campaigning, more than any previous candidate. To get around the Federal Election Commission's guidelines, the pretzelnut simply had to dub the trip "official" versus "political". He made 5 "official" trips to Pennsylvania during the campaign.
He sure does know how to spend our money when it suits his needs, and it leaves little doubt as to what his priorities are. Raising money to replace Stabenow in the Senate - a good thing. Meeting to help Michigan's automakers get back on track - not worth the trip.

3. Probably not worth looking for me

I have a commitment I can't get out of from 3:30 to 5:30, and I doubt I'll be able to get there in time afterwards. :(

I'm hoping others are able to put on a good show, though.

On Pinewood, which is the street just West of Mound, there is a Union Hall, local 140, (my old Local), which might have some parking spaces available.
At the North end of Pinewood, at 9 1/2 Mile, is another Local that is very much into supporting workers.
There is also at least one, maybe more, locals on Mound Road in the area.
This area is East of I-75, North of Eight Mile Road, and South of 696, for any who are not sure where it is. There is an exit off of 696 onto Mound Road.

5. Made it out to protest.

A few of us made it out to demonstrate to the FundRaiser-in-Chief that he wasn't welcome with people tossing flowers.
We had an excellent location on Mound Road as the cops made everyone cut down to one lane and turn onto a side street off Mound Road. We stood right on the corner. That gave us a nearly "captive" audience for our yard signs and posters.
There were so many people that flashed us the thumbs up. I did not see a single negative reaction, I think the Republicans are just swallowing hard and moving on. Waiting till they get a leader with a brain.
