Sign Theft Story on WOOD TV Grand Rapids Hides the Truth
In a replay of the 2004 election where over 1200 Kerry/Edwards signs were stolen or vandalized Kent County Democrats are seeing our Republican neighbors & friends step onto our private property to take or rip up our political yard signs. So much for freedom of speech & tolerance in Kent County Michigan.

The story behind the story that WOOD TV broadcast on Friday evening is that two of the four young men who were arrested at 1:00 am on October 26th, a school night, were the sons of prominent area families. Where this story differs from other election sign theft and trespassing incidents is the very close ties to the DeVos family including to the company that handles all of the DeVos family investments.

In the WOOD TV expose, no mention whatsoever was made of the close family ties to the DeVos campaign. The station had knowledge of these ties but chose to ignore it. Why? Who made the decision to suppress this information?

There are many factors that are disturbing about this event. Like a very similar incident in 2004 where four Cornerstone University students were caught with numerous Kerry/Edwards yard signs in their truck, these young men are the product of socially conservative Christian homes and are students at a socially conservative Christian high school. Did Jesus teach that stealing and trespassing onto your neighbors’ property is the way to live a Christian life? What exactly is being taught at this Christian high school?

The homeowner in this particular incident had been the victim of numerous political yard sign thefts in past years. This time, after this first Granholm sign was stolen, he took extraordinary measures to "protect" his second sign.

2. "and justice for all"* ... see disclaimer
* The blindfold on the statue of lady justice has been removed and is now covering the bare breast of another statue inside the DOJ building.

It makes it easier to see that this was a one-time prank by some nice-looking, white Christian kids. Their families' closeness to the DeVos campaign should not be used against them.

I think I'm gonna be sick.

5. On the other side...
if it had been three black kids stealing DeVos signs in Grand Rapids, it would be all over the front page of the Grand Rapids Press, and they would be calling for punishment to the fullest extent of the law. I believe this is what is called a double standard...

3. That reminds me of the two young men
from two close, prominent, politically active families who burned down the original Ada Covered Bridge several years ago. No matter - Amway replaced it with a replica.

4. WOOD is not exactly known for being fair and balanced.
Not to mention that their anchorwoman is the most annoying woman on earth (Suzanne Geha). She sucked so badly that she lasted about a year on Channel 7 in Detroit.

7. My Mom in the sticks gets only WZZM.
I'm not impressed. Nothing bad or controversial ever happens in G.R.

Too bad that the G.R. Press isn't more like the Muskegon Chronicle. That paper swings dem and loves to rake muck! I'd like to see them go after the DeVos/VanAndel mafia.

6. Typical Republican Tactic
This reminds me of a story I remember from the 1996 Presidential campaign between Bill Clinton and Dole. Several Democratic areas around Wayne County that had Clinton signs on front lawns or the boulevards of larger streets, found them stolen and replaced with Dole signs. At first, the story got the "teenage prank" treatment by the area media, when they weren't ignoring it completely. Finally, a couple of reporters from a Wayne County chain newspaper staked out an area with Clinton signs, and the thieves actually showed up late one night. When the theft and replacement were made, the reporters followed the thieves to see where they would go. Shockingly, (at that time, anyway), they drove all the way back to rich West Bloomfield, to Republican Party Headquarters there. They were operatives. The media went back to ignoring the story.
