Michigan stays #2 in preliminary BCS final rankings
Things can change over the next couple of weeks depending on what USC, ND and Florida do, but for now we're still #2 and still have a shot at a rematch.

1. And why isn't Wisconsin (who only lost to UM) ranked third?

2. There are a bunch of once-defeated teams
They can't all be #2 or #3. There's so much that goes into the way they figure out the positions -- strength of schedule, scores, points allowed, etc. And, of course, some of it is subjective on the part of the humans voting in the polls. It also depends on where they started the season, who they lost to, etc. It will never be a perfect system.

Wisconsin had a great year this year, too. I guess we're sharing the runner up in the Big 10 with them, both at 7-1 in the conference.

5. Good to see the Big Ten shining this year!
I am an alum of Big Ten and SEC schools who now lives in ACC country. Great basketball, but the football here is rather weak!

4. Absolutely!
I had a conversation today with an old friend about that very thing. We could use the grand-daddy bowls (Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Orange) as the first round, then have a round with the four winners of those games in the next group of bowls and then the championship game with the two winners of those games. The coaches are too stubborn to do this. It really wouldn't have to add much time to the length of the bowl season, if any. Even if it did, it would be during vacation for most schools, so wouldn't take the players away from class.
