Info on December peace vigils and bus to DC in January
Edited on Thu Dec-21-06 08:50 AM by SharonRB
I received this from the Huntington Woods Peace, Citizenship and Education Project:

Holiday Peace Vigil on December 23
Calls for an End to the War in Iraq
A Holiday Peace Vigil will be held Saturday, December 23 at 4 p.m. on
Woodward at the corner of 11 Mile in Royal Oak in front of St. John’s Episcopal
Church. It is sponsored by the Huntington Woods Peace, Citizenship and
Education
Project.
“The holiday season is about peace on earth and we wanted to give members of
the community an opportunity to take a break from the holiday rush and
express their desire for peace in Iraq. There is no more important time then
during the holidays to make our call for peace heard, “ said Spokesman Rich
Feldman.
“Our message is to remind everyone that it is only through community acts of
conscience that the war policies of our government will change. The world
will be watching the actions and decisions of our newly elected government. We
can only expect them to respond when we “act” for peace. It is our
responsibility and now is the time to act.”
Participants can bring candles and signs. Signs will also be provided.
For more information call 248-225-8037.

VIGIL TO MOURN IRAQ WAR DEATHS
7:00 PM at the corner of Kercheval and St. Clair on the day after the
3000th US fatality is announced
Pointes For Peace and the American Friends Service Committee invite you to
join in a vigil to mourn the deaths of the 3000 US military lives, an unknown
number of contract personnel from many nations and those more than 500,000
Iraqis who have died since the U.S. invasion. More than $350 billion has been
spent to fund this war, thus far with little accountability or question - we
urge Congress to address this folly.
This vigil will be held from 7 to 7:30 PM at Kercheval and St. Clair in
Grosse Pointe on the day after the passing of this terrible threshold. We will
read names of some of those who have died in this war and occupation.

We will recommit ourselves to working for peace and nonviolent resistance to
terror, war and injustice. Our children and grandchildren deserve to live
in a world which has learned responses to terror and injustice which don't
breed yet more terror and injustice.
We will gather not in a spirit of recrimination but of mourning for the
death and horror which has already been fostered and as a community of hope and
action calling for peace now and for a future based on a force more powerful
than weapons of war and politics of fear. We ask all who attend to respect
the solemnity of this event and to gather in the spirit of peace and concern
which unites us. You may want to bring a flashlight and a peace sign.
In addition to attending this event, we also invite you to sign the "Not One
More Death. Not One More Dollar." pledge (either online or following the
vigil) telling Congress to stop the war.
More information, a convenient and secure way to email friends about this
event and an on line sign up form (which is not necessary but is helpful for
planning purposes and to be informed when the vigil is to take place) is
available at _www.afsc.org/3000/_ (http://www.afsc.org/3000/) .
