3,000 vigil New Years Eve (afternoon) in Detroit
corner of Woodward and Jefferson - from 4 to 6 pm Sunday

Names of the Michigan dead will be read, and some Iraq horror stories told. There will be some "3000 Dead" signs. If anybody wants to make a public new year's resolution, there will be some open bullhorn time... maybe some press.

At 7pm Pointes For Peace will be holding a 30 minute vigil at Kercheval and St. Clair in Grosse Pointe. Details here:

1. I know they are going ahead with the Detroit Vigil today, but do you know...
if the Pointe one is sticking to their original plan (day after), or if they are going ahead with the vigil today?

2. Oops, good catch
My original email didn't state the day explicitly for that vigil.

I asked for clarifiction and got this:

We will not be holding the Kercheval and St. Clair vigil this evening. In all sad likelihood it will be tomorrow (Monday) assuming that the threshold is crossed today - as of this moment that is only one away.

3. Thanks. I just got an email about it, too.
MONDAY, January 1, 2007
7 to 7:30 PM at the corner of Kercheval and St. Clair
VIGIL TO MOURN IRAQ WAR DEATHS
We invite you to join us in a vigil to mourn the deaths of the military personnel, the more than 500,000 Iraqis and an unknown number of civilians from many nations who have died since the U.S. invasion. We will gather in a spirit of mourning and as a community calling for peace now and for a future based on a force more powerful than weapons of war and politics of fear.
We ask all who attend to respect the solemnity of this event and to gather in the spirit of peace and concern which unites us. You may want to bring a flashlight and a peace sign.
Directions from I-94: EXIT at CADIEUX, take Cadieux toward Lake, past Warren and Mack Avenues to KERCHEVAL, TURN LEFT ON KERCHEVAL and continue to St. Clair. The vigil will be held adjacent to the site of the former Jacobson's store, (SE CORNER).
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at (313) 884-3271 or michael.kelly9@att.net
Peace,
Mike and Carmen
