Will there by a rally when Bush visits Maple Grove?

Bush to visit Maple Grove on June 17

June 4, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Bush is planning a town hall meeting June 17 in Maple Grove to discuss Medicare and Medicaid, a Minnesota Republican official said on Friday.

The official declined to be identified by name because the trip has not been formally announced by the White House.

Maple Grove Police Chief Mona Dohman said that "we are working with the Secret Service," but declined to give details of the visit, which would be Bush's first to the state since he won his second term.

The White House and the Secret Service, which normally do not release the president's schedule more than a week in advance, declined to confirm the trip.

3. All I need is a time and a place. Of course, the Chimperor plans his
visits on weekdays when the "working class" are at work. He knows the "real" Repugs don't have jobs or anything like that. Oh, and I like how they won't give any details so the "working class" that needs to plan ahead to take days off in order to be there to protest him can't do so. Luckily, my boss lets me take my vaction days whenever I want so I'll sure as hell take a day off to protest the fact that the Chimperor has the nerve to show his face in MN. No problem. Just tell me when and where he'll be here and I'll make sure to be a part of his "unwelcoming committee." I feel it's my duty as an American citizen. ;)

4. I grew up in Maple Grove in the 70s/80s
...and even though I don't know too many people who are left out there, the ones I do know are not very happy with how Dubya's managed this country.

Even though MG is a GOP stronghold, I have a feeling there's some resentment out in suburbia for the economic uncertainty in the professional ranks. He may be in for a rude awakening...

11. John Edwards was in Maple Grove HS before the elections
and it was packed... though not necessarily by MG residents. It was on a Sunday - a beautiful Sunday in October - and I think that people came from all over the metro area.

5. if there's not a rally
go anyway. i'm sure there will be a decent amount of protestors.

i don't think there was a planned rally when he came to kutztown, pa, a small college town near me. but 1000 people showed up anyway and just lined the streets.

6. I'm moving to Maple Grove next month
I did see John Edwards at his rally in Maple Grove.

Do you think they would have it at the High School again? School is out now so it would not intrepid classes. Other than that I cant think of where else he would go to. To hell maybe?

7. Don't count on it
Closed meeting, hand-picked cheering/adoring spectators, in and out.
I lived in Maple Grove 79-91, there were not very many people out there at the time and I have no idea what the political climate was, then (wasn't paying attention).

17. We were there at the same time then
I mostly grew up there (1970-1989). Of course we were in the SE corner on the east side of Fish Like, which was more working-class than the big mansions across the lake.

Most of Maple Grove was represented in the state senate by Tad Jude, who was a pro-life Democrat in the 1970s, and who later became a religious-right GOPer on the Hennepin County Board. It was pretty moderate to conservative for the most part, IIRC.

9. Heck, yeah!
Give Bush a rally to show him that Minnesotans reject his top-down faux largesse.

14. Was this event open only to supporters?
Did anyone attempt to get tickets through the GOP or any other channels? Is this event restricted to supporters only like the rest of Bush's phony town hall meetings? Did anyone try to get tickets and get denied because they weren't a supporter or on the right list? The local media doesn't seem to know--only that about 3/4 of the tickets were distributed by Bushco.

15. Yes, it's invitation-only.
The audience will be filled with hand-picked Republican party operatives and officials.

There have been several LTTEs in the Strib lately from freepers defending their sensitive little president by saying they only do this because you know those LIBERALS will just disrupt and shout down the president. Grrrr...

16. I heard part of it on MPR
it sounded like an Infomercial, which it really was. I give no more credence to that precentation than some random person on TV at 3am selling something.

18. Did anyone go to protest this Potemkin Village Meeting?
I couldn't take the day off. I'd have loved to have tried to get in to the event itself. But I'm not a Republican nor am I going to sign any loyalty oaths. I just want to hear what he has to say and how he answers questions from real people.

Yeah. Right. Like that's ever going to happen here in Potemkin USA.
