That man really opened my eyes to politics. I first had him in the fall of 1988, and one of our first assignments was to attend a caucus meeting for the party of our choosing. And I'm embarrassed to admit, my fellow Democrats, that at that time I considered myself a Republican. Might have had something to do with them still calling themselves the INDEPENDENT-Republicans at the time, but I went to that one and supported Dole. Really opened my eyes to what the Repukes stood for, too.
Through that class and another that I took from him, all he did was expose us to different viewpoints and lots of history. His classes were very hard, but incredibly rewarding. At least partially, and possibly mostly due to him, I am a staunch liberal today.
He was a great teacher. One of the true stars of his profession. Glad to see he's still at it. Thank you, Mr. Carls.
