Michele Bachmann fired from GOP Senate leadership
This self-pitying press release reportedly was sent out from the Bachmann for Congress campaign. Seems one legislative session of "Assistant Minority Leader Michele Bachmann" was enough for the Senate Republicans.

They must not have gotten the memo that Michele is a rising star in the party...

Bachmann’s Anti-Tax, Pro-Life Stance Leads to Ouster from Senate Leadership

Conservatives Purged Because of Last-Day Stand

SAINT PAUL—A fight to the finish over whether to raise taxes has led to the removal of Senator Michele Bachmann, (R-Stillwater) from her State Senate leadership position as Assistant Minority Leader in charge of Policy for the Senate Republican Caucus.

“My constituents are my first priority, and they’ve consistently supported me fighting tax increases. I think they’d agree that I’ve been very faithful to their wishes,” said Bachmann.

“Unfortunately, I felt at the end of the recent legislative session that I was fighting an uphill battle on my constituents’ behalf,” said Bachmann. “It became especially clear on the final day of session when I offered an amendment to remove the cigarette tax from the Health and Human Services budget bill that my philosophical differences with the minority leader were just too deep for him to allow me to continue in a leadership position.”

“Today the fallout was finalized—I was stripped of my leadership position,” said Bachmann. “It’s a shame that the anti-tax message is lost on the leadership when it so resonates with our constituents.”

“What’s most discouraging is that in the end, I supported final passage of the HHS budget bill because of its strong pro-life language recognizing fetal pain, and still the minority leader was not satisfied,” said Bachmann.

“For five years, I have consistently fought tax increases and have been an advocate for the unborn,” said Bachmann. “Though my advocacy has cost me my leadership position, I will continue to fight against tax increases and for the well-being of those who cannot speak for themselves. The upside of today’s event is that I can be completely committed to thinking about my constituents’ concerns.”

1. Hey it happened, is hell feeling chilly?
The GOP got it right. (not for the right reasons of course.)

2. Which party leader did she upset?
There HAS to be some inside story with this. It cannot just be a push to kill off any compromise that led to the shutdown.

3. wow - she can't shut up, just keeps on chewing off the hand that feeds her
By the way, this fetal pain thing - once they pass that one will they go on to legislate against and irradicate all circumcisions? Surely they don't endorse newborn pain any more than they do fetal pain.

4. This is significant since the 2006 session will be her last
Since she is leaving the Senate anyway in a yr and a half normally, I thing the Repubs would just let her keep the title and marginilize her duties. VERY interesting that they took away her leadership post. I wonder now if there are questions on the right about her as a House candidate.

10. Someone at the gathering last night read the press release
in a really whiney voice.

We all had a good chuckle over beer.

9. The Repugs have created a bunch of monsters they can't control!
Take Katherine Harris, for instance. LOL. This one has me in stitches.

GOP tries to dissuade Harris

11. Removed because she "represented" her constituents?
or because she turned herself into an embarrassing laughingstock?

12. Wow. Whose, uh, proposition did she turn down? As for her other comment,
"...for the well-being of those who cannot speak for themselves..." she speaks up for the poor wealthy?! She speaks not for me or anyone else I know, and I know many.
